Liquid Generation apparently found the news that Samuel L. Jackson would be playing god in an upcoming audio-Bible to be as amusing as I did:

The Alamo Drafthouse seems to be putting on a good collection of events. First we announced their Blanks on a Blank contest. They’ve now posted their submitted entries. There’s about 75, so I haven’t watched them yet. Anybody want to take on the task and start posting reviews? (the creators of Aardvarks on a Tank were the ones to email me the link, so they get a plug).
Then we announced David Ellis would be attending a screening there on the 18th. No update on that.
Now, they’ve announced they’re holding a charity event called Snakes on a Day:
Starting at 10 pm, August 17th, Shannon McCormick, artistic director of Gnap! Theater Projects and Austin-based actor and comedy improviser, will attempt to induce in himself the state of being trapped on an airplane full of venomous snakes by watching the most anticipated movie of the 21st century around the clock for the first day of its release.
Audience members are invited to join in the delirium-creating marathon. If an audience member makes it through all 24 hours of the film, his or her admission is free. If they bail after the first screening, they pony up $1000. For each subsequent screening they make it through, the price is ratcheted down by $100. All proceeds gained in this way will be donated to Venomousreptiles.org, a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness of our poisonous friends and rehabilitating injured venomous reptiles.
At one point in college I, along with crazymonk, had planned to do something similar with the Battlefield Earth… sadly that never came to pass.
Full list of Blanks on a Blank entries after the jump:
Captain Ahab was one of the winners of the Tagworld contest and their song Snakes on the Brain will appear on the soundtrack for Snakes on a Plane (and maybe in the film?). Over the last few weeks they’ve sent me a bunch of stuff about a music video they were working on. First there was a story about the video shoot in the Los Angeles Alternative. Then there were pictures from their video shoot:
And now they have a completed music video:
Also Louden Swain, the other Tagworld winner, has said that they’d be happy to mail out copies of their CD to interested fans… just send them your mailing address to band@loudenswain.com and they’ll send it right out.
The last birthday party I posted involved adults, and that’s fun and all, but nothing beats the birthday party of an 8 year old in pictures:
AND video:
Fueled by Ramen has posted a brief listing of the “Ehanced Content” to appear on the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack:
- Snakes On A Plane (Bring It) (Music Video) by Cobra Starship
- Early Auditions (Video) by Dave Coyne
- Snakes On A Plane (Shake off the Snakes) (Music Video) by Rob Liscombe
- Snakes On The Brain by Captain Ahab
- Here Come The Snakes (Seeing Is Believing) by Louden Swain
It’s nice to see that all of this is going to be on the soundtrack, it’s a nice collection of fan work.

I’m going to slowly get these interviews online. Here are my one-on-one interviews with Jules Sylvester (the snake wrangler) and David Ellis. These were recorded by a professional videographer, so they probably look better than my Kenan Thompson interview. I’ll try to get transcripts for all of these online at some point, but for now, here’s this:

I arrived home from Comic-Con last night, and I still have a bunch of videos to post but I’ll be getting to those over the next few days. If you haven’t done so already, check out IGN’s streaming video of the fantastic Q&A (featuring questions submitted to this site as asked by Kenan Thompson) or this non-streaming quicktime version. Also, Crazymonk joined me at some of the events, you can check out his coverage of Comic-Con.
However, to pass the time until I get the new videos online, if you’re in the mood for something completely COMPLETELY different, you can check out the following video. It takes the Snakes on a Plane phenomenom in directions that nobody could have anticipated. Seriously, nobody:
Today was my big day at Comic-Con. Here’s what I did:
The interviews all went pretty well, I barely started crying at all. I’ll be posting video for most of them next week, but I have one of the videos right now: my 1 on 1 with Kenan Thompson. It’s 10 minutes long and covers a lot of fan-submitted questions. Highlights include Kenan’s impression of Bill Cosby encountering Snakes on a Plane and a rapper who meanders in and hands Kenan a postcard. I’ll get a transcript up next week:

Kenan Thompson talks about Snakes on a Plane
New Line’s presentation was interesting… after a few non-SoaP related presentations (which the crowd was generally NOT into) we got to the meat of the presentation. There’s lenghty coverage at AICN and I feel loathe to retype it. Go here and read their full review of the evening.
Here’s the short version: New Line opened with a few minutes with Jules the snake wrangler followed by a few minutes with David Ellis. This was good, but then they moved into a full 10 minutes of film. This was not an extended trailer but a 10 minute chunk from the center of the film. There were snakes, there was swearing, there was snake whipping, there was bite after bite after bite… it was good.
Following the 10 minutes of film Samuel L. Jackson entered in the dark yelling his infamous line. The crowd went crazy. He sat down with Kenan Thompson, Jules the snake wrangler, and David Ellis for the best Q&A I’ve ever heard. It was hysterical the full way through. IGN is supposed to post a video of the Q&A, but I can’t find it on their site. Let me know if you find it anywhere?
I’ve been asked not to post the 10 minute clip from the film. Sigh.
UPDATED at 6:27pm - The video is now working.
Guess who’s drowning in content? I am, I am.
Over the last week or two I’ve been sent more emails on more topics than I could efficiently deal with. In general, I don’t like to post more than three things a day as I think it rushes content off the main page too quickly (not everyone comes here every day). Sometimes things come in that I don’t post because there isn’t, in my mind, room. Additionally, I’ve been busy and that’s allowed me to fall behind in responding to emails or sorthing things efficiently. Here’s a few items that came in during the past week that corrected/updated recent posts:
About the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack album: I commented on the fact that the Tagworld winners didn’t appear on the track listing. New Line has pointed out that the CD has “ECD” (read: computer) content and the winners will appear in that section. I think that means these tracks will only play on your computer (not on a standalone CD player). A second email from an independent source at New Line said the songs appear as “special hidden tracks.” The first email also reminded me that the “song” (I assume they meants songs) would appear in the film as well.
About the Blanks on a Blank contest: Henri Mazza, creative director at the Alamo Drafthouse (host of the contest), wanted to point out that they have announced prizes:
I saw that back when you first posted about our little Blanks On A Blank contest we caught a lot of flak for charging an entry fee. I know, I know - money sucks. But the best post was the person who thought that the grand prize for the winner would be to get their $40 back. Well, it took us a while to get lined up, but we actually got the real prize all ready to announce:
Airfare, Hotel, and Two Tickets to the World Premiere of SNAKES ON A PLANE.
So, yeah. We think that’s pretty cool. And we’re looking forward to seeing some completed movies…
Second place winners will receive $500, third place winners will receive $250.
That’s it for corrections and updates. I’m sitting on a big pile of content, I’ll see what I can do to start putting it out there.
All Your Base Are Belong To Us had its time as a meme. That time has, sadly, passed. We’ve seen the rise of new memes, but nobody has forgotten AYBABTU’s place in the annals of memedom. Thankfully, however, no longer must you enjoy Snakes on a Plane related ephemera without also enjoying the history of memeing. Here we go:
All Your Snakes Are Belong To Us (YouTube)
It’s more thorough than I would have thought. The video originally came from here, but they only provide it in a 25 meg .zip file that I wasn’t able to download, but you can always try your luck.

DCLugi told us that his previous video would be his last. There was much begging for him to stay, and a few tears. Thankfully, he wasn’t totally done. While this isn’t technically a Snakes on a Plane video, it is a video detailing the responses he received to his last Snakes on a Plane related video (Someone Tell Sam Jackson he’s my Bro) and as far as DCLugi goes, I consider that close enough:

Tagworld is, presumably, pleased with their first contest so they’ve written in to let me know that they’re holding a second:
I wanted to let you know that today we launched a new contest on TagWorld. Here’s how it works: come to www.TagWorld.com/Snakesonaplane and record a video comment telling us why you should get to video chat with Samuel L. Jackson. The best comment will be selected on July 17th, and the winner will get to use TagWorld Video Chat to chat with Sam Jackson on July 22nd. Webcam is required to participate – we’re really excited about this and I’m sure your readers will contribute some amazing comments! It officially launches tomorrow but I wanted to send it to you today so your readers could have first crack at the contest!
I’m personally curious how far Samuel L. Jackson thinks he would have come without having ‘L’ as his middle initial, but I’m not sure if that would make the cut.
There were some problems with Tagworld’s first contest, and it took an awfully long time to get results, but hopefully they’ve fine tuned their testing process and everything will run a little bit more smoothly this time. Time will tell.
In other, unrelated tagworld news, a reader pointed me to this craigslist ad looking for girls interested in appearing in Tagworld winner Captain Ahab’s music video. Technically, they’re looking for “BOOTY GIRLS” which isn’t really my thing, but I guess you take what you can get.
The Alamo Drafthouse, favorite film venue of the AintItCoolNews crowd, has announced a Snakes on a Plane parody video contest entitled:
From the site:
Animals and vehicles: they just don’t mix. The biggest film of this summer, obviously, will show us the inherent dangers of putting motherf***ing snakes on a motherf***ing plane. But what will be the biggest film of NEXT summer?
To us, the success of SNAKES ON A PLANE is a foregone conclusion. And when any film is a success, sequels are inevitable. But how do you follow up the brilliance of S.O.A.P.? Do you put snakes somewhere else? Do you put a different animal on a plane? The options, of course, are endless, and as we were sitting around a table at a pub talking about all the different possible cinematic combinations, we realized that we really, really, really we wanted to see all those movies become a reality. And so we set up the Blanks On A Blank film-making challenge, giving the whole world the chance to show us the future of animal/vehicle disaster films.
When you sign up a team to participate in the challenge, our random generator will provide you with an animal and a vehicle. You’ve then got until August 3rd to completely finish a 2-5 minute original disaster movie that shows us all about how bad things can get when your BLANKS somehow make their way onto your BLANK. Because sure, rabbits on a boat sound harmless enough, but when those motherf***ing rabbits were placed on that motherf***ing boat by terrorists? Well then you’d better watch your motherf***ing ass.
They came up with some good rules:
3) All films must contain the line of dialogue “(your randomly chosen animal) on a mother fucking (your randomly chosen vehicle).”
They even have a short example film/ad for the contest:
Update: it’s been pointed out that you have to pay $40 to register a team, which is pretty lame.
David Spade had the Wayans brothers on and it somehow devolved into a Snakes on a Plane bit… although I’m unclear as to why. It’s sort of odd. (thanks noobles)

Will, otherwise known as stikNstein, has produced two more Snakes related stickdeath animations. He’s prolific. As always, click on the image below to see it animated.

A few weeks ago I posted a translation of Snakes on a Plane into American Sign Language. Then Will was kind enough to make two stickdeath animations showing the translation in action. Meredith, who actually knows ASL, was kind enough to give us a video of a true ASL translation:
Now can anyone do Klingon?
