Snakes on a Marketing Conference Video

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I’m giving a presentation at an upcoming London-based marketing conference (about which I’m terrified, but don’t tell them that) about blog marketing. To go along with my presentation, I’ve cobbled together a little video that compiles a some of the photos, videos and songs that I’ve featured on this site. I’ve put it up on YouTube for anybody’s amusement. Anyone who’s actually supposed to ATTEND the conference, shouldn’t watch the video… it would ruin the surprise. Enjoy:

I had to make this video while offline, so if I didn’t include a good piece of material, it’s probably because I didn’t have it stored on my own personal computer. Sorry about that. If I get a chance, I’ll come back and include links to the sources of the songs and videos… but it can’t happen tonight.

Snakes on the USC Band

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

I know you thought the whole Snakes on a Plane thing had peaked, but, well, this one’s new. “The Snake has entered the Colliseum”:

Snakes on a Plane USC marching bandSnakes on a Plane USC marching band
USC Marching band covers Snakes on a Plane

AOL Sports Blog was kind enough to point to the above video and add the following commentary:

Proving that no cultural phenomenon is too overdone for the University of Southern California’s Trojan Marching Band to exploit, this year’s pop-culture song added to the Spirit of Troy repertoire is Cobra Starship’s “Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)”.

I like the big snake walking around the field, but it would have been nice to have some sort of plane, or, of course, Samuel L. Jackson in lieu of the Trojan mascot.

Snakes on Howard Dean

Monday, August 28th, 2006

First there were snakes on a presidential candidate’s PAC.  Then there were snakes on the Senate.  Now, the Irish Trojan put together this amusing clip of Snakes on Howard Dean.

Snakes on a Song

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Foolishly I’ve been holding on to a long collection of songs for months and now I’ve lost a lot of their names and contact information. Sadly, I no longer have the time to research where each of these came from, so I’m just going to throw them out there to you. Give them a try, and if you know who belongs to each song (and links to their websites), post it in the comments:

Anyone want to review these?

Update: One more from WPLJ in New York:

Snakes on an Audio Book

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

An audio book of Snakes on a Plane is available for download, but it’s not free AND it’s chock full of DRM.  If you don’t mind paying and don’t mind subjecting your purchases to the whims of rights-holders, you can give it a shot. Once again, I was asked to accept a “security update” before I was allowed to listen to this, so I wasn’t particularly interested. You might be.

The audiobook apparently cast both DCLugi and the guys from Subatomic Warp to provide audio.  Does anybody care to provide a review?

Snakes on a Soundtrack Preview

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

MTV2 has the entire soundtrack available to listen to. It didn’t work right away with my browser, and I wasn’t interested in installing a required “security update” so that might just be me.

Snakes on Tagworld Contest Winners

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

Captain Ahab was one of the winners of the Tagworld contest and their song Snakes on the Brain will appear on the soundtrack for Snakes on a Plane (and maybe in the film?). Over the last few weeks they’ve sent me a bunch of stuff about a music video they were working on. First there was a story about the video shoot in the Los Angeles Alternative. Then there were pictures from their video shoot:

And now they have a completed music video:

Also Louden Swain, the other Tagworld winner, has said that they’d be happy to mail out copies of their CD to interested fans… just send them your mailing address to band@loudenswain.com and they’ll send it right out.

Snakes on Enhanced Content

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Fueled by Ramen has posted a brief listing of the “Ehanced Content” to appear on the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack:

It’s nice to see that all of this is going to be on the soundtrack, it’s a nice collection of fan work.

Snakes on a Kindergartner’s Song

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Matt previously gave us the pictures of the Kindergartners as well as the recent Snakes on  a Home Birth video, and he’s back with a little bit more.  One of his students is apparently a talented singer/songwriter/armpit fart artist.  I’m not really sure how else to introduce this one:

Jack sings SOAP and plays the armpit fart

Snakes on Fan Audio Trailers

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

This series of four trailers was produced by a radio show, so I don’t think it strictly qualifies as fan productions, but let’s give them a chance (click on an image to hear the associated audio trailer):

UPDATE: Snakes on a Cobra Starship Song

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

Cobra Starship, the lead band on the official soundtrack, finally has their Snakes on a Plane song online. I’m generally reluctant to link to MySpace pages for a variety of reasons, but I don’t really see much way around this one. If anyone has any other links for this, preferably with a downloadable mp3, let me know. For the time being, though, here’s:

Snakes on a Plane (Bring It) by Cobra Starship

And, odd for a real song, they mention this blog. What the hell?

UPDATE posted 7/7/6 at 10:02am: The video has been posted on YouTube:

Snakes on a Tagworld Contest… err… Again

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Tagworld is, presumably, pleased with their first contest so they’ve written in to let me know that they’re holding a second:

I wanted to let you know that today we launched a new contest on TagWorld. Here’s how it works: come to www.TagWorld.com/Snakesonaplane and record a video comment telling us why you should get to video chat with Samuel L. Jackson. The best comment will be selected on July 17th, and the winner will get to use TagWorld Video Chat to chat with Sam Jackson on July 22nd. Webcam is required to participate – we’re really excited about this and I’m sure your readers will contribute some amazing comments! It officially launches tomorrow but I wanted to send it to you today so your readers could have first crack at the contest!

I’m personally curious how far Samuel L. Jackson thinks he would have come without having ‘L’ as his middle initial, but I’m not sure if that would make the cut.

There were some problems with Tagworld’s first contest, and it took an awfully long time to get results, but hopefully they’ve fine tuned their testing process and everything will run a little bit more smoothly this time. Time will tell.

In other, unrelated tagworld news, a reader pointed me to this craigslist ad looking for girls interested in appearing in Tagworld winner Captain Ahab’s music video. Technically, they’re looking for “BOOTY GIRLS” which isn’t really my thing, but I guess you take what you can get.

Snakes on Tagworld Winners

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

Tagworld officially announced the winners of the contest yesterday:

Snakes on the Brain by Captain Ahab

Here Come the Snakes by Louden Swain

Both of those songs were snakes-related which is good (I was worried Hollywood.mp3 was going to make the cut). They’re both now going to appear on the soundtrack. Congrats.

Snakes on a Tagworld Contest Winner Announced Tomorrow

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Tagworld has written to let me know that they’ll be announcing the contest winner tomorrow morning (I suppose that’s tomorrow morning LA time so probably tomorrow noonish Eastern time).  Despite the lengthy delays in the contest, I admit I’m curious about the winner.

Check back tomorrow.

Snakes on Songs XIII

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

I’ve been sitting on a collection of songs for a long time now. I’m still moving, so updates are hard, but here you go:

Snakes on a Plane by Rich S

I haven’t listened to these yet, give them a shot and let me know what you think.

Also, I got word from Tagworld that they’re going to take a few extra days going over the songs in the top-25 with New Line and figure out which they can use. We should be hearing more from them soon.

Snakes on Songs XII

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

Sorry for the slow updates. I had my first final today - a 9 hour takehome. It’s somewhat exhausting. If anyone wants to discuss Criminal Procedure, though, I’m up for it. I know as much as I’m ever going to know about fourth amendment protections, go ahead, quiz me. Next up? Constitutional Law.

Anyway, here are a few more songs for you, remember, we’ve still got almost a month of Tagworld voting left… make sure actual Snakes on a Plane songs end up before New Line’s ears.

Snakes on a Plane by Yumian Robb

SoaP by Arthur Blume

Snakes On A Plane by Dan Israel

Final Snakes by Shranky Dank

I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to them. Anyone want to post some reviews?
