Last night I attended my college’s massive costume competition and won first prize with my homemade costume. “Snakes on a Stewardess”. I stitched 25 small rubber snakes to a stewardess uniform, applied zombie makeup, and wore a 5 foot long, plastic cobra named Samuel L. Jackson. Thought that you might enjoy the photos.

Yeah! The third costume was courtesy of Max. Any others out there?

I’ve gotten a few things in the mail in the last few weeks. I’ve been slow about posting it all, but here’s an update.

This meta-shirt was put out by Look at Me Shirts and can be purchased here. I know it’s a little bit late to be picking up new shirts, but, hey, it’s really never too late.

Snakes on an umbrella? I know you were all waiting for this to come out. You were sitting there, holding on to your last twenty dollar bill, on the verge of financial ruin, just waiting, WAITING, for a Snakes on a Plane themed umbrella to be available. There never was one before, there probably never will be one again. But there is one now. Damnation-Inc rocks.

And finally, the most precious of the three items. A friend was on a work-related visit to Taiwan and took this picture, which I was pretty happy with, until my package arrived in the mail today containing a Snakes on a Plane poster in, well, Chinese? I assume Chinese. Pretty cool, eh?

Anybody want to send me more foreign posters?  It could be a thing.

What they don’t realize is that we already have an entire Snakes on a Hockey Team. I haven’t seen a picture of their uniforms, but I can only imagine they’re Snakes on a Plane related.

New Line has taken an interesting tack with the whole t-shirt phenomenom. It might be a little bit late in the game to make a difference, but when go to the Cafe Press Snakes on a Plane page, you find this:

This completely unique approach to fan licensing, has never previously been embraced by any motion picture studio.

The one catch is:

So, no pictures of Samuel L. Jackson. That’s mildly annoying. Oh well, there’s still a lot of leeway there. I wonder if New Line (or other studios) are going to keep doing this sort of thing in the future. Will the next generation of films even bother making their own merchandise, or just allow fans to do it for them?

Earlier in the week I posted a picture of myself wearing Damnation’s final SoaP shirt: iPod Girl is my Co-Pilot. Agam Darsi was kind enough to provide a picture of her wearing the eponymous shirt:

Between this and the recent picture of Christa Faust wearing her fan-made shirt, we’re on quite a roll of getting our interviewees into shirts.

Two new Snakes on a Plane shirts today:

The first shirt is from SoapShirt.com and uses a warning light motif. The second is from out friends at Damnation with their final design: iPod Girl is my Copilot. Nice. Agam Darshi (iPod Girl) promised me a picture of her wearing the shirt, I’ll post it here when it arrives.

It’s sad to hear that this is Damnation’s final design, just as it was sad to hear that DC Lugi was finished making new videos. Maybe they’re just saving up for the DVD release.

Back in April there was a guy claiming he would get a Snakes on a Plane tattoo if enough money was raised. Well, nobody cared enough to pay for him to get the tattoo (plus, if you need to be paid, then you aren’t a true fan). We all knew that someday someone would care enough to do it just for the love of the thing. Well, that day has arrived:

Doz deserves a real Snakes on a Plane style salute (although I don’t know what that would be). He even got a write-up about the tattoo in Giant Magazine, whatever that might be.

Three new shirts came in the mail this week, two you can buy, one is only for me. The first two are fan made:

This first shirt is math based and clearly contains a joke far, far over my head. This one was, of course, designed by a Harvard student which explains why I don’t understand it. It can be purchased at T-Shirt Mojo.

This second shirt didn’t photograph particularly well (the lighting in my room is strange, I have to stand on my bed to get these pictures to come out at all). It can be purchased at the Travelling Snakes CafePress store in the usual assortment of CafePress styles.

And here’s one final shirt (front and back):

Those first two were both fan-made, but this final shirt came to me special delivery directly from David Ellis and is the shirt given out to actors, musicians and other folks directly associated with the film. I feel very special, I will wear it proudly.

Samuel L. Jackson was apparently wearing more than just the shirt at the MTV movie awards. According to the Globe and Mail, Samuel L. Jackson was also wearing a themed necklace (although he’s clearly not wearing it on stage):

The article discusses a new wave of licensing film content for adult products, moving beyond the traditional children’s market. Well, I suppose fans looking to spend “$170 (all figures U.S.) for a sterling-silver replica of Jackson’s necklace, or $150 for a similar set of luggage tags” now have a chance to do so. Seems a tad pricey, and a tad non-fan-produced, but that’s a matter of preference.

Samuel L. Jackson wore a Damnation-Inc SoaP shirt at the MTV movie awards, but Jeffrey Rowland pointed me to this picture of Samuel L. Jackson wearing a TopatoCo shirt with what I think is Cobra Starship (the band doing the official music video). Phew, that’s a lot of links for one sentence. Anyway, here’s the picture:

Sam Lowell was smart enough to win an award for gifted students and land in the newspaper. What made him even smarter, though, was that he wore his Snakes on a Plane shirt for the photograph:

Jackson will appear in the soon to be aired 2006 MTV Movie Awards wearing what appears to be Damnation’s Snakes on a Plane “MoFo” edition shirt. Here’s a few images with an annoying Getty Images logo in the way… does anyone have access to cleaner images?
