Snakes on ESPN

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

ESPN’s Page 2’s Bill Simmons is, unsurprisingly, a big fan of Snakes on a Plane:

Note: Speaking [of] predictions, if “Snakes” doesn’t have one of the most magical runs in cable history, I’ll be shocked. So much to love, including Sam Jackson showing off a Barry Bonds-sized noggin, Juliana Marguiles with an “I never should have left ‘ER’ ” look on her face, Tim Riggins from “Friday Night Lights” joining the Mile High Club, Kenan Thompson successfully landing the plane because of his experience landing planes in video games and, yes, snakes eating people on a plane. I’ve watched this movie three times in 10 days, and I might go for No. 4 tonight.

Incidentally, if anyone is looking for an exciting new blog feed, I’ve started writing on my own personal website: RumorsDaily. It’s just a personal blog, so there’s no theme to the writings and no particular reason why SnakesonaBlog fans would find it interesting, but there you have it.

Snakes on a Marketing Conference Video

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I’m giving a presentation at an upcoming London-based marketing conference (about which I’m terrified, but don’t tell them that) about blog marketing. To go along with my presentation, I’ve cobbled together a little video that compiles a some of the photos, videos and songs that I’ve featured on this site. I’ve put it up on YouTube for anybody’s amusement. Anyone who’s actually supposed to ATTEND the conference, shouldn’t watch the video… it would ruin the surprise. Enjoy:

I had to make this video while offline, so if I didn’t include a good piece of material, it’s probably because I didn’t have it stored on my own personal computer. Sorry about that. If I get a chance, I’ll come back and include links to the sources of the songs and videos… but it can’t happen tonight.

Snakes on Whales on Stilts?

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

Alright New Line, it’s time to get on the phone. Somebody option this book:

Whales on Stilts

Whales on Stilts! Tell me this doesn’t have the makings of a sequel to Snakes on a Plane written all over it? They’re whales, and they’re on stilts! How did they get the stilts? How did they get up onto the stilts? How are they surviving out of the water? Who attached freaking laser beams to their heads? If this book is anything like Snakes on a Plane, these questions will be left mostly unanswered… but it looks like a hell of a ride!

From the description:

The trio soon learns that Larry does indeed plan to conquer the world using mind-controlled whales on stilts with laser-beam eyes. No adult will believe them, so it’s up to the kids to save the Earth.

I know what I want for my next birthday.

This appears to be the official Snakes on a Plane talking pen.  Although, admittedly, it’s not really a field in which you’d have a lot of unofficial competitors.

Snakes on Cheap Shirts

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Just a quick heads-up at a promotion going on at Damnation Inc:

Hey everybody,Spring is just around the corner (if you ignore the snow here in the northeastern US) and spring means t-shirt weather!

Here at Damnation headquarters, we’re trying to clear out some space and get some new designs by the time summer rolls around. And you can help out by buying some shirts! We’ve made it very easy and priced the popular Snakes shirt at $2! TWO DOLLARS! Yes, you need to buy 5 to get the price, but it’s still quite a deal, considering just one blank American Apparel shirt would set you back $15.

A clean Snakes shirt for every workday. Think about that. What an excellent idea. Other shirts have been marked down to $5 each. Poke around the site to find out.

In addition to the price drops, Paypal is also running a promotion: spend at least $30 through Paypal and get $15 back. Seems like a good deal, if you qualify. Here’s the link:

https://paypal.promotionexpert.com/greatshopping/signup/

Check the Terms and Conditions to see if you’re eligible. If so, lucky you. Note: this promotion is offered by Paypal and its partners, not damnation-inc.com . Use at your own risk, only as directed.
Thanks,
Chris

Snakes on Malaysia

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Authorities found over 2,400 smuggled snakes in crates at an airport in Malaysia on their way from Thailand to Hong Kong.  How were they discovered, you wonder?

Workers handling cargo at the complex near the Bayan Lepas International Airport in Penang grew suspicious when they heard hissing and “slithering sounds.”

Ah, well that clears it up then.

Snakes on SXSW

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Sadly I couldn’t attend the Snakes on a Plane panel at SXSW. I was invited, but I had other duties to attend to, but here’s an introduction to the panel by its moderator.

Here’s a write-up of the panel.

I should have gone.

Snakes on a Marketing Conference

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Guess who’s going to London?

Ok, it’s me.

I’ve been asked to give a presentation at Marketing 07, a marketing conference being held on June 11th and 12th in London. Here’s my blurb:

Brian, a first-year student at Georgetown University Law School, saw the title of proposed film “Snakes on a Plane” and turned it into blog. The blog turned into an internet phenomenon. Some of his blog statistics include: “I’ve been online for 90 days. I’ve had 265,000 visitors and posted 185 stories. There have been 770,000 requests for pages, and a staggering 18,100,000 requests for all files. I’ve transferred 375 gigabytes of data. There are currently 31 translations of “Snakes on a Plane” into foreign languages. I’ve been interviewed by TV crews. According to Google, SnakesOnABlog.com has appeared in 34 newspaper stories, been linked to by 521 blogs, and over 6,500 other webpages.

So what motivates bloggers? What are the keys to having a successful blog? How should companies respond to bloggers? What are the challenges for marketers and how much control should companies try to exert?

Also speaking at the conference is Lord Bell, who is a Lord. I have to admit, I think I’m outclassed: I’m not even a Duke or a Squire.

The real question is, what should I talk about? Anyone want to suggest a script for me? I have to come up with something that at least keeps me in competition with Lord Bell for best speaker.

Snakes on a Citizen Marketer

Monday, February 5th, 2007

During the summer I did an interview (on camera no less!) with Ben McConnell and Jackie Huba (of Church of the Customer) for a book they were working on called Citizen Marketers. Well, it’s out.

They sent me a copy and I’ve been slowly working in through it (it’s pretty good, I’ve just had other activities on my plate) and it talks about me and Snakes on a Plane quite a bit. Here’s some quick images:
