Snakes on the USC Band

I know you thought the whole Snakes on a Plane thing had peaked, but, well, this one’s new. “The Snake has entered the Colliseum”:

AOL Sports Blog was kind enough to point to the above video and add the following commentary:

Proving that no cultural phenomenon is too overdone for the University of Southern California’s Trojan Marching Band to exploit, this year’s pop-culture song added to the Spirit of Troy repertoire is Cobra Starship’s “Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)”.

I like the big snake walking around the field, but it would have been nice to have some sort of plane, or, of course, Samuel L. Jackson in lieu of the Trojan mascot.

at the BC-Vtech game tonight i heard “ridin’ dirty”. i thought that was a great popular-song-turned-marching-band-pep-tune. but this is much better.

Reading the AOL Sports Blog confirmed my suspicions–this is the same band that won a Grammy for helping Fleetwood Mac do the ultra-awesome “Tusk”–the song that made me want to join my High School marching band! Too band our band was NEVER THIS COOL!!!

Sweet Jesus…
It makes me want to see SoaP all over again.
SNiff…I miss it so much–every once in a while I get that urge to go see it, but alas, it is no longer in theatres. And it’s all because of those hypocrytical bastard snakesonaplaniacs who didn’t go to see it on opening night! GARRGH!! You aren’t true snakesonaplaniacs! YOU ARE ALL DEAD TO ME!!! (Except for you upstanding citizens who actually DID go see it. Good for you. Here’s a hug.)

Ha, I might have been part of the problem, then. I never paid to see the movie. Maybe if I had gone a few times during the opening weekend, things would have turned out differently.

That was so awesome! I wish my school would do something like that! Don’t despair fellow SoaPiacs, SoaP is available for preorder at Amazon, release date is Jan. 2

I’ve watched this so many times since I’ve gotten home from work, I might as well offer a play-by-play, for those who can’t hear the announcer too well.

“The snake has entered the colliseum!!”

**enter snake girls while band “scurries in fear”**

“Enough is enough!! I want this venom-spewing snake out of this memorial colliseum!! The only hero who can help us…(listen for audience member shouting SLJ’s name)…Tommy Trojan!!!”

**the snake girls are fought off by the band’s mascot, Tommy Trojan, while the band kicks musical butt (does anyone know what form the band is standing in?? A PLANE, perhaps???)**

**Tommy “slays” the snake as the song ends**

“Ladies and Gentlemen, you’ve just witnessed another example of the power of the Spirit of Troy!”

**lame typical marching band music as they march off**

Umm… I hear anything. Was there any audio?

Either way, it was pretty awesome.

I’m a band nerd, and I’m a SoaP nerd. So, it’s all good.

Hey, this is my video! I was debating on whether to send it to you guys, but I guess you’re one step ahead of me.

My sister is a student at USC and she stumbled upon the band one day practicing the SOAP theme. Once I heard about it I begged her to tape the halftime performance for me. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but it’s great nonetheless. :D
