Snakes on a Box Office Report III
September 3rd, 2006 at 2:03 am

According to BoxOfficeMojo Snakes on a Plane has now taken in $36,352,192 ($28,535,193 domestic + $7,816,999 foreign). If the budget numbers provided by IMDB are correct, the film is now officially in the black.

Black enough for a sequel?

I just looked at IMDB and it says Snakes cost $33 mill to make. Since the studios only get about 60% of theatrical ticket money (rest goes to movie theaters) they still have a ways to go to get in black. Plus it probably cose another 20 million at least for marketing. Snakes will make its money back, but probably only when DVDs, etc. are all added up.

Hi -

The old rule of thumb was that a movie needs to gross 2.5 times its production cost to break even. However, in recent years home video (DVD’s etc) has become a greater source of revenue.
