Snakes on a Fake Me
August 25th, 2006 at 11:55 am

A reporter got in touch with me last to verify an AIM interview I had given. I have never done an interview by AIM, so I was intrigued. It turns out he was talking to whoever has SnakesonaPlane on AIM (I am SnakesonaBlog). The person clearly stated that he was me and proceeded to give a full interview. It’s strange. Does the real owner of SnakesonaPlane want to step forward? The odd part is that he gives a full, rather mundane interview. You would think if he was going to impersonate me, he might want to throw in some outlandish claims. I wonder how many other false interviews he’s given.

The full interview is available after the jump:

Senor Pig (6:49:10 PM): Hi Brian, My name is Brian Heffernan. I am a reporter from the Columbia Missourian newspaper. I am writing an article on Snakes on a Plane and its blog popularity. Would you have a few minutes to chat?

Senor Pig (6:49:47 PM): I sent you an e-mail with a few questions a few minutes ago as well if now is not a good time

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:01:15 PM): Hello.

Senor Pig (7:01:58 PM): is this Brian?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:02:20 PM): Would you like to interview me, or not?

Senor Pig (7:03:02 PM): Yes I would but first I always fact check to make sure that I am speaking to the right person

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:04:23 PM): In the flesh.

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:04:32 PM): Or should I say scales.

Senor Pig (7:05:14 PM): And just to make sure, which blog is it that you write?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:06:11 PM): Snakes on a blog.

Senor Pig (7:07:18 PM): well great. Then if you don’t mind telling me, how did you first year of the film?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:07:50 PM): How did I first year of it, or how did I first hear of it?

Senor Pig (7:07:57 PM): hear of the film rather

Senor Pig (7:07:58 PM): sorry

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:08:44 PM): I’ve always been a huge Samuel L. Jackson fan, so I figured any movie starring him with such a ridiculous title could not be overlooked.

Senor Pig (7:09:17 PM): where did you first find/hear it though?

Senor Pig (7:09:25 PM): was there a particular site or program?

Senor Pig (7:09:31 PM): that you recall

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:09:50 PM): Hmm, I remember much of the hype being stirred from YTMND.com.

Senor Pig (7:10:45 PM): And what do you think about all of this buzz that has been going on about the film

Senor Pig (7:11:03 PM): have you seen similar trends with other movies?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:12:21 PM): Perhaps to some extent, but not so much that has been generated with this film.

Senor Pig (7:12:33 PM): So then why this film?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:12:58 PM): Going back to the first recollection of the film for a moment if I may Brian, I’d like to show you a small site that humored me.

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:13:01 PM): http://snakeburger.ytmnd.com/

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:13:14 PM): And why this film?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:14:55 PM): I think the ridiculous title along with such a predominant Hollywood figure, has drawn more people to this film than the actual plot itself.

Senor Pig (7:17:16 PM): Alright, well before the advertising had even begun on TV, people were already talking quite a bit about it on the blogosphere. Do you think that this was a single, isolated incident, or do you think it may possibly be a trend with future blockbuster movies?

Senor Pig (7:17:36 PM): and why?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:20:31 PM): Well, as you and I know, the internet is a vast place with many subcultures. You have your bloggers, your MySpacers, your AOLers, and so on. And being as such with these communities news and information gets widespread throughout very quickly. For example, say you have been chatting with someone on any of those previously mentioned mediums and they happen to show or tell you about the upcoming film ‘Snakes on a Plane’. For a moment, you may laugh but come to find out they are serious, you look into it more and start to share it with your friends, as well they share it with their friends.

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:23:01 PM): As for future blockbuster movies, I can’t really answer that in too much detail considering I have no idea what hollywood plans to release. But I could see it happening.

Senor Pig (7:23:53 PM): so you think that it will depend on the content or in the case of this film, movie title

Senor Pig (7:23:57 PM): ?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:24:51 PM): Moreso the movie title as opposed to the content of the film, although personally I found the plot to be somewhat interesting although the film ended without much closure.

Senor Pig (7:25:51 PM): what were you thoughts of the film, besides it not ending with much closure?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:26:28 PM): I found it entertaining, as well as humorous at many points.

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:27:17 PM): When I went to see the film, Samuel L Jackson received a standing ovation during several of his lines.

Senor Pig (7:27:28 PM): well great, that is about the end of my questions, do you have anything else you would like to add?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:29:22 PM): Go see ‘Snakes on a Plane’ and be sure to check out www.snakesonablog.com - And also a shout out to Ender and ‘<' jw.

Senor Pig (7:30:18 PM): alright well do you have any other contact information that you could give me so I could get back to you if I’d need to?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:30:39 PM): You could always email me at snakesonaplane@aol.com.

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:30:48 PM): And I’ll be sure to get back to you.

Senor Pig (7:31:11 PM): ok well thank you

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:31:25 PM): Pleasure has been mine.

Senor Pig (7:31:26 PM): who is this really though?

Senor Pig (7:32:08 PM): i went to the website and i know that the real blogmaster’s Instant message name is SnakesOnABlog

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:32:33 PM): It was. Now I have this.

Senor Pig (7:33:20 PM): if you don’t mind me asking, why the switch

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:33:33 PM): I get a lot more traffic this way.

Senor Pig (7:33:55 PM): people chatting with you, you mean?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:34:18 PM): Emailing, chatting, yes.

Senor Pig (7:34:55 PM): Oh and one more thing, how was the premeir at the Chinese Theatre?

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:35:41 PM): The premiere was awesome, nothing like a red carpet full of snakes.

Senor Pig (7:36:36 PM): did you get to meet Samuel L? or anyone else from the cast

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:37:23 PM): If you have more questions email them to me I must be going for a short period of time. I’m sorry.

Senor Pig (7:37:39 PM): it is alright. Thank you for your help

SNAKESONAPLANE (7:37:47 PM): Not a problem, I enjoyed myself.

Senor Pig (7:37:52 PM): is there a number i might be able to reach you at?

Strange, eh?

well from the interview you’d think it was someone from ytmnd.com, a plague upon this net. But yes very, very boring interview. You’d have been far more interesting right?

Senor Pig (7:01:58 PM): is this Brian?

How friggin’ rude. That’s not OUR Brian, fer sure. :-p

Friggin’ douche. He made Brian look like a serial baby killer (gasp)!

“The premiere was awesome, nothing like a red carpet full of snakes.”

I’m glad that the reporter wasn’t dumb enough to fall for that. Rather amusing.

He made such a point of plugging that YTMND page, I have to wonder whether he isn’t the author of it: http://ytmnd.com/users/mattdh12/

But who knows whether that’s actually the same guy, might be unrelated.

I wonder if snakesonaplane@aol.com is a real address? If it is, is it really HIS?? I was considering a spam-war, but if it’s not him, what’s the point? :-p

Comment by Armitage112 — August 25, 2006 @ 1:01 pm

Is it possible to have the aol email address and not the aol AIM name? I think if you have one, you have the other.

So, yeah, I think snakesonaplane@aol.com is real.

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — August 25, 2006 @ 1:09 pm

For example, I’m pretty sure nobody could register snakesonablog@aol.com as their email address, since I’ve registered it as my AIM address. Anybody feel like giving it a shot?

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — August 25, 2006 @ 1:15 pm

The name is taken. But ooo now everyone knows your aim! Now everyone will message you and ask you to give them your treo!

Hmmm

*loads up aim*

Comment by AnyankaBunnyfear — August 25, 2006 @ 1:25 pm

Ha, my AIM name was always on the Contact Page.

I haven’t been using it as of late, my AIM client has ceased to function for some reason. Stupid GAIM.

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — August 25, 2006 @ 1:30 pm

shouldn’t use lame ol linux then.

I don’t use Linux, I use regular old XP. I just don’t like all the ads and other cruft that’s in the standard AIM package. Plus AIM doesn’t let you set up alternate names for people, so you have to remember that HOTCHICK!)!)!78 is really your friend Amy.

GAIM is a much more pleasant experience all around, except that now it doesn’t work.

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — August 25, 2006 @ 1:35 pm

Oh then trillian. trillian! http://www.trillian.cc I can’t imagine using anything else. Gaim is not pleasant and you know it. I’ve heard many problems involving the connectivity issues you speak about.

I bet it is the hacker from ytmnd that was messing with Max and the votes on the king cobra contest. There is some good guys on that site and some not so good guys. but thats everywhere

Comment by Jakob and Will — August 25, 2006 @ 3:59 pm

An interesting interview, Brian. Thanks for showing us! Also, that Ytmnd of “Snakes on a Burger” has always been one of my favorite, Snakes on a Plane-based ones. Again, a nice interview there.

Comment by Rare Addict — August 25, 2006 @ 4:13 pm

that guy dares to pass himself off as you and then uses a corny joke right away? ughhhhhhhhh
your interview would have been waaay better brian

Comment by lizzy — August 25, 2006 @ 9:33 pm

I don’t have time to read the fake interview, but jeez, you’d think he’d at least give one “and a Bababooey to y’all” at the end. I mean if you’re gonna yank someone’s chain, at least make it funny.

Comment by Mother — August 26, 2006 @ 11:44 am

That guy is a jackard. I hope he gets spammed with numerous hate emails. And yes, I definitly think this guy is from ytmnd… a lot of those ytmnders are quite rude actually. One of them tracked me down on Myspace to rag on me (about the offical SoaP sweepstakes) and to tell me that Max would “own us all”….. UGHHHH. Puh lease.

Comment by reba mac — August 28, 2006 @ 3:15 am

Well, first of all, YTMND is great. Secondly, I’m pretty sure that guy was a non-native English speaker. He didn’t make that YTMND, he’s just trying (poorly) to be creative. But look at his speech:

“Going back to the first recollection of the film for a moment if I may Brian, I’d like to show you a small site that humored me.”

or “If you have more questions email them to me I must be going for a short period of time.”

I dunno, it just reads oddly. Oh, and YTMND FTW!
