Snakes on a Box Office Report III
August 24th, 2006 at 10:43 am

Some of you were disappointed with last weekend’s box office numbers. Some of you were disappointed with people who were disappointed with last weekend’s box office numbers. But it’s important to remember that the opening weekend box office numbers are only one manner in a which the success of a film is judged. There is, of course, the film’s longevity. A valid question is, how much will it drop off this coming weekend?

So, the Internet still has a chance to redeem itself in the eyes of media. Maybe. Will people continue going to the theaters for a second weekend in a row? It was number one last week, can it be number one again? It’s up to you. Will you be in the theaters again this weekend?

In a similar vein, thenow has provided a rant/plea for foreigners to pick up the ball considering the lengthy list of international release dates quickly approaching:

Snakes on a Plane plea
Snakes on a Plane rant

I’ve reccomended it to all my friends, 2 of which I am sure are going, I am taking my girlfriend Saturday night, and even have my PARENTS wanting to see it.

WORD OF MOUTH WORKS! If people tell people that a movie is a grand ole time and a spontaneously RHPS-like partly audience-driven experience, they’ll believe you more than a dozen critics.

I think that with the critical raves that it is getting (i.e. Critics are saying that it does exactly as expected and is entertaining) that the film should see a much better turnout in coming weeks.

The other thing to watch with a film like this is the fact that it will catch hard on DVD… I would reference films like Super Troopers, Boondock Saints, or even Mallrats. All found their following once released to DVD.

Just my 2 cents…

Heh yes it was official and notarized and everything offically sounding. I think we should all take at least two friends and see the movie again this weekend. Number 1 for two week in a row would be great. Additionally about the numbers….it just reminded me of what Kevin Smith said here http://tinyurl.com/jcezc and people were overreacting in a very annoying way.

FYI: according to Rentrak Grosses that all theater report to:
SoaP $16,820,368 as of 6/23/06

Go see Snakes On A Plane

I’ve seen it 4 times and plane more.
Instead of buying popcorn watch it back to back.

Get a van an kidnap your friends and family and take them to see snakes on a plane

Thanks for featuring me on the front page. Hopefully, the people shall hear my plea.

I hate to be a doomsayer, but I have seen “Beerfest,” and it is going to crush “Snakes on a Plane” this weekend. Plus, the (perceived) stench of failure is going to keep people away from “Snakes,” too. Sad and totally unfair, but true.

Don’t say I didn’t try to warn New Line months ago that they were resting on their laurels (I mentioned it in a post on this site back in June). They thought their work had already been done for them thanks to sites like this, and their film is dying a horrible death because of their laziness. Tragic.

But hey, on the plus side, that means the DVD will be released sooner, right? :)

If America lets Beerfest make more money than Snakes on a Plane then it’s letting the terrorist win.

Jay Chandrasekhar—Director of:

Beerfest (2006)
The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)
Club Dread (2004)
Super Troopers (2001)
Puddle Cruiser (1996)

David R. Ellis–Director of:

Snakes on a Plane (2006)
Cellular (2004)
Final Destination 2 (2003)
Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco (1996)

Oh, I am SO NOT worried about “Beerfest” surpassing “SoaP”.

I’ve suggested the film to many of my friends using both my own voice and the Sam Jackson messages from the official site(hehe). About four of those friends plan on seeing the film this weekend. I’ve seen it once, and I myself might even go again this Saturday. I hope that Snakes on a Plane is able to make the top of the box office again this coming weekend, just as most of you all do.

What’s funny is that it was still #1. For a movie that would have made virtually NO money if it were PG13 and released under another title or without the Internet support, folks are sure eager to call it some kind of failure. Hello? I mean, come on. Did anyone really expect it to be a Matrix or a Passion of the Christ or any of those top-grossing rated R movies?
How much did it cost to make?

Yes I sure as hell will, Brian.

I think more people need to know that this movie REQUIRES audience participation. The second two times I saw it, everyone was completely dead. Now that didn’t stop ME from being a loud, crazed snakesonaplaniac, BUT, no one else joined in. At my third showing, I was actually quite nervous someone was going to cuss me out, because I was literally the ONLY one in the theater yelling and cheering every 5 minutes. They just didn’t understand.

Audiences as a whole will have a much better time viewing this movie, if they all banded together and participated in the movie.

And you know what else…. this movie was NUMBER FUCKING ONE in the box office this weekend…. who cares about money figures…. the fact if the matter is, this movie beat out all the other movies this weekend, and that’s whats important!

BOO YA!

I’d love to see it again but the fact theres no cinema in my home town since March and they seem to be taking thier gosh damned time completeing the new one seriously fails! ( I’d have to travel to a nearby city to see, like I did on opening day here )

Also, as for this ‘ Beerfest ‘ film, geeze, that sounds even worse than SoaP! I can honestly tell you, SoaP was the first film I’d seen in a cinema in OVER A YEAR and I don’t think any other film tickles me enough to go back! I’ve told a few people I know that SoaP was an absolute blast and that they should go see it, hopefully, they’ll do as I say! ;)

I also have to admit I’m extremely disapointed with its somewhat poor performance but didn’t The Shawshack Redemption totally bomb in cinemas as well? Look what happened when it came out on viedo. ( back then, we were still using VHS ) Just a thought.

First, a little disapointed for the soap box office.
Altougth, we must be happy cause this blog had increase it for sure. New Line found here a free promotional secure and we all should recognize that this is a very freakie film that, maybe, will be realeased directly on dvd overseas.
Then, a good number of millions for a minor promotional. NL discovered in us an unexpected target when they read the script for first time.
So, 16 milions is a few. But it’s good for this film, and pretty good for it’s budget. Nobody could think that this movie should be a summer bomb. It’s only a little freaki film, a nice film for have a good day and a laughting time.
I’m from Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain), so sorry for my english. And I think that the box office will be increased to 30 millions in States, and 20 overseas. 50 million worldwide, wich is a nice number for a low budget film. And a film with a synopsis and title like that.
Little money? Maybe, but for sure much more than SOAP without this blog and all our free work, illusions and real expectations in front this script.

Medusa–I thought I saw the original being auctioned off for charity in an earlier post here. Where to get a copy–I’d like to know myself. ;-)

The rocket scientists at USA Today ask the musical question:

“What, if anything, went wrong with “Snakes’?”
