Update at 2:06 am PST: I am back for the evening. If you’re looking for an evaluation of the film, you should check out the comments below, people seem to have had pretty much the same reaction I had.

More premiere pictures after the break, in order to help my poor, poor server, I’ve had to make them slightly less visible.

Great movie. I saw it with two people who weren’t into the hype and expected to hate it, but they love it too.

Definitely the Academy Award sweeper. There will be lines snaking round the blocks for this smasheroo, They are making hisssstory.

Comment by Debbi Kempton-Snakey-Smith — August 18, 2006 @ 1:05 am

Wow. That movie met all of my expectations. Everyone in the theatre was pumped. We all shouted along with Sam Jack as he said THE LINE, and then I threw all my snakes in the air. It was great! My freind Will and I kept on shouting “Aaaah YEAH MOTHERFUCKER!” and everyone kept laughing and clapping. It was like we were the ring-leaders of the theatre. There was this one guy in the front row (he looked just like the fat guy from Lost! Same hair and everything!) who kept on shouting “He’s not gay!” about the male stewardess, and god damn, how did he now? It’s so great to have a movie where you can shout out loud and no one will care, infact they’ll only cheer you on. But seriously, that was a very good movie. A few corny lines, but that’s what we’ve all come to expect from Snakes on a Plane, right? Very well done, Mr. Ellis! I didn’t even have any complaints about the acting, everybody did atleast a decent job playing their parts, and of course Sam L. Jackson was great. I love how they even had Champ from Anchorman (who is in just about every movie ever made) in the film as Rick, the pilot. Great. How could Ebert possibly give it a bad rating now (though of course he will, because you all know he doesn’t want to be wrong)? But fuck him, he is a big douche. Not to mention ugly, too. You know, I was expecting to be sad after I saw this movie, since my “Snakes on a Plane adventure” (wow, that was so corny it could have been actual diolouge from the movie) would finally be over, but now I’m just pumped! Pumped for Brian to report back, pumped for the DVD release, and pumped for the inevitable sequel(s). I am a very happy Snakesonaplaniac right now.

Comment by irrelivent — August 18, 2006 @ 1:07 am

We brought an 8 foot long stuffed snake to the theatre, but one AMC dude made us bring it back to our car again. What a downer. There was actually a cop there too. But I brought 14 people with me from work, and it was an amazing experience.

I’ve never been a theater where people honestly clapped and cheered. I’m amazed! It was AMAZING! Now I have a GREAT fear of snakes so I closed my eyes an awful lot but it was fuckin amazing. I gotta see it 3 more times to see the parts I missed. Ahh the toilet! the toilet!!!!!!!

Ofjdgdfjh. Just got home from the 10′er in Huntsville. I threw my snakes when the timer went all-zeroes. There were so many moments of shrieking, hysterical laughing, more shrieking and “OHHHHH”… oh my gosh. It IS SO GOOD. And we stuck around for the music video and I got a little whimsical when the “snakesonablog” line was sang. (I’d never listened to the song before) anyway. Looks like you(’re) ha(ving)d a super time. Congrat’s! I wouldn’t have had such a divine movie going experience without you and your fount of might SOAP knowledge/resources. THANK YOU. ;D

Comment by Robin Lynne — August 18, 2006 @ 1:49 am

Dude! Fanfuckin’ tastic! Congrats on being mentioned in the freaking movie!

Just came from the Albuquerque premiere…well worth the wait. I was thoroughly entertained. The snakes they had in the theater before the movie made the experience that much cooler. Anyone else have live snakes at their premier?

Comment by Medusa — August 18, 2006 @ 2:19 am

Wow that was an amazing movie!

My theater went COMPLETELY NUTS when he said THE LINE. The entire theater stood up, screamed the line at the top of their lungs, then cheered for a minute straight as they threw rubber snakes in the air and 4 guys ran around the entire theater with their shirts off screaming at the top of their lungs and hugging people. I’m not making this up.

Other times the entire theater cheered and clapped:
-After each preview
-When the movie started
-When “Snakes on a Plane” appeared on screen
-When “Samuel L. Jackson” appeared on screen
-At the first sight of Sam
-At the first sight of Keenan
-At the first sight of snakes
-When the plane took off
-When the first attack happened
-When the rest of the attacks happened
-When Sam taizered the snakes
-When the plane landed
-After the last snake attacked the guy and Sam shot him (After a minute of complete silence)
-When the movie ended

What an amazing experience.

Comment by Snakes on a Snake — August 18, 2006 @ 2:31 am

LOL that was incredible. Every theater in Chicago was sold out — and I sent in some pictures of standing ovations at the theater. There was so many people jumping up and down during “the line” the projector was shaking at AMC 21 River East in Chicago

Comment by Kristopher — August 18, 2006 @ 2:44 am

Just saw the premiere in Sacramento — it was everything written above and more. There were about 300 people, all going crazy. It was better than the best midnight movie / Rocky Horror experience I’ve ever had. The main difference is that SOaP is actually a well-made film.

I’m guessing $50M+ for the opening weekend, and predict it will stay strong beyond Labor Day.

Comment by Squibner — August 18, 2006 @ 3:20 am

Incredible movie. Absolutely fantastic. Well worth the wait, well worth the hype. I’m speechless.

Comment by Jim — August 18, 2006 @ 3:22 am

As Sam told me on the phone, ‘the greatest movie ever made.”

It was funfuckingtastic in Portland, Oregon. I was shouting at the screen, “Say it, Sam, Say it!” and when he finaly did the audience cheered so loud we only heard half the line!

I hope it makes a bazillion dollars. We MADE this movie; the fans OWN it. Congrats, everybody!

Comment by TB — August 18, 2006 @ 3:35 am

Totally awesome! We sadly didn’t have too many people in our theatre out here (like 40 or so), but it sounded full the way everyone cheered and laughed throughout the movie! Twas truly the rock, yo!

LOL. We got every single one of the cheers AND one of the loudest cheers in the theater down here in Florida was when the plane comes within 20 feet of crashing in the ocean only to swoop upward at the last minute. ROFLMAO! Sheer unadultarated madness I tell you

I was expecting a crappy B-movie.

What I got was a motherfucking thrill ride.

Most thrillers I can compare to a roller coaster, a few moments building up the action, a few moments racing down the hill. Snakes on a Plane was a motherfucking SPACE SHUTTLE. It didn’t waste any time getting to the action, and once it started building up, it didn’t go back down.

I went to the 10pm showing in Beavercreek, OH and it was a scene. We had some kids dressed up as snakes and another one with a tinfoil vest and cardboard wings. My wife and I got there two hours early because we knew what to expect, and we were pissed off when right before the movie started we had to move to a bigger theater because there were too many SOAP-LOVING MOTHERFUCKERS. However, it was just a testament to what SoaP has become to us all.

We cheered when we saw SLJ’s name.

We cheered when we saw the snakes.

And you can sure as hell bet we cheered when SLJ got tired of those motherfucking snakes.

Comment by Steve the Pirate — August 18, 2006 @ 5:36 am

Comment by Harish — August 18, 2006 @ 6:06 am

Best. Movie. Ever.

This is the first movie I ever went to the prerelease to. And will be the first movie I ever see multiple times in the theatre.

The Show here in Spokane Washington only had like 30 people but what we lacked in people we made up for with cheering. We cheered for every moment listed above and we even threw rubber snakes for THE LINE. It was awesome. I can really see this movie becoming the next Rocky Horror. I mean seriously… We’ve already got the first que down. (Throwing snakes for THE LINE) Just think of what else we can come up with… I have some pretty good ideas about possible things for the boob scene and the snakes on a snake scene too.

It was kinda cool, everyone saw that scene coming so we all yelled (snakes on a snake) Most awesome movie experience of my life, second only to Rocky Horror… And just barely… once we get teh Ques down it will surpass the classic…

It is 3:30 and I just returned from the premiere and after party. It has been an insane ride the last 5 months. I am so happy that I delivered the fun of the film that you all wanted. Sadly, I was in Hicksville, NJ, where even though the theater opened the two largest rooms for the 10pm and 10:15pm shows, mine was only about half full–but there were enough of us enthusiasts to make it worth the trip! I was NOT disappointed! Thank you Mr. Ellis for delivering more than expected! “No movie shall triumph over SNAKES ON A PLANE!!”

Comment by Armitage112 — August 18, 2006 @ 8:48 am

I wish I had been at one of those theaters where the majority of the audience was SERIOUSLY into it. But I have to work today (Friday) and couldn’t afford to make a road trip. But those of us who showed up in my tiny theater made it worth the while! Thanks Mr. Ellis for delivering such a great movie “No movie shall triumph over SNAKES ON A PLANE!!!”

Snakes in Europe–Man, I’m sorry you couldn’t make it to see it with the rest of us. We feel your pain. (But don’t worry, it’s a GREAT movie)

Comment by Armitage112 — August 18, 2006 @ 8:51 am

So we went to the 10pm Premier in Wilmington, DE.
This movie was absolutley glorious.
Everyone was so hyped that everytime anyone walked into the theatre before the previews started they got a standing ovation from 40% of the crowd.

Another hilarious part was when Sammy had the flashlight in his mouth and was getting directions over the radio from the stewardess… some guy yelled “Jurassic Park!”

And then I of COURSE yelled, “RAPTORS ON A PLANE!”

Everyone just died laughing.

I wish I had more thumbs, cause this movie was the best thing I’ve seen in my 21 years of existence.

Saw the 10pm showing in Baltimore last night.

Snakes were off the chain !!!!

So bad, yet so good. AMERICA LOVES SNAKES AND PLANES !

I could’ve delt without some of the theatres elemenary commentary throughout the movie, but after i threw a snake on one very idiot girl, everything went well after that.

The theatre stood up and cheered after the movie ended.. Truely a audience driven flick. EASILY could run midnights on weekends for eternity.

Comment by Steve Aitch — August 18, 2006 @ 9:08 am

I went to the 10 o’Clock showing last night with about 40 people…that’s right….40. Wee took up all of center theater and watched THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE…..EVER!!!! Like many have already stated, the whole theater was yelling and jumping around at key parts in the film. Mainly at the title, when Sam shot the snake on the guys chest, and every point in between. We all shoutted THE LINE when Sam said it. Everyone got up and danced during the music video too. It was the greatest movie experience I have ever had in my life. The second greatest movie experience you might ask? WHEN I GO SEE SOME MOTHERFUCKIN SNAKES ON A MOTHERFUCKIN PLANE AGAIN TONIGHT MOTHERFUCKER

Sarasota Florida—

The film was an event! No cool live snakes unfortunately but plenty of turnout and a huge reaction from the audience. Like everywhere else, cheering and screaming basically every time Sam appears on screen or says anything. Keenan got plenty of love too though, which he deserves because he’s fucking awesome and delivered one of the best lines in the movie “fuck randy and his high score! fuck him! that’s my own brother and i said fuck him!” hahahaha. Great movie. Huge turning point for American cinema. Maybe studios will stop underestimating [overestimating] the audience. Sam Jackson deserves the Coolest Fucking Human Ever academy award. He’s my hero. As is the director, and all the fans who made this happen.

But let’s just hope this doesn’t unleash a Jaw’s like snake backlash. Snakes are nothing like the creatures in that movie. Even the mean ones.

This is my review for the New York Times website–I get it emailed to me as part of my job. They are still calling it “Pacific Air 121″. Elitist dweebs. Anyway, anyone can post a review, and it should be up within 24 hrs.

Here is how your review will appear on the site:

Snakes on a Plane–NOT Pacific Air 121, August 18, 2006
Reviewer:wbodine112
It is important to point out that the title of this movie is NOT “Pacific Air 121″, but “Snakes on a Plane”. Even the movie’s star realized what it was when he read the script, and didn’t try to pretend it was anything else. That’s what makes it so universally appealing–it’s not Hollywood snubbing the audience, it’s Hollywood finally being brutally honest with the audience. As Mr. Jackson said: “It’s not “Gone with the Wind”, it’s not “On the Waterfront”, it’s “Snakes on a Plane”!” And the movie delivers exactly as promised–there is non-stop action, there are characters you can actually have feelings about, there are real and CG snakes slithering wild, there are gruesome special effects, and there is Samuel L. Jackson, having the most fun making a movie I’ve ever seen an actor have. This is his baby, and he’s proud of it. You go in expecting a thrill ride, not an intellectual exercise or a deep emotional revelation, and you get what you paid for. Not since “Rocky Horror Picture Show” has there been such an anticipatory sense of audience camaraderie. I won’t post any spoilers, and most already know the plot–I will just say–this movie is everything it said it was, and more. You can believe the hype!

Comment by Armitage112 — August 18, 2006 @ 9:44 am

Brian,

Sometimes things happen among people
That you really don’t expect.
And sometimes the things that are important
are the ones that seem strange or at the least….. weird.
Those are the ones that change your life.

“A man’s dreams are an index to his greatness.”

Congrats Brian…….

(of course that last line is meant in a good way………)

Comment by B_Zizzle — August 18, 2006 @ 9:50 am

Saw SoaP at a theater in Lansing, Michigan last night and it was everything I hoped and more! About 100 people showed up and the crowd was pumped from the get go.

Cheered when the lights went down.
Cheered at the title.
Cheered at Sam’s name.
Cheered at the microwave scene.
Cheered so loud after THE LINE that you couldn’t hear anything else for several minutes.

Can’t tell you how many times people were howling with laughter–one of the scariest AND funniest movies of the year. Definately a packed theater, bring your friends and sit back and enjoy kind of film.

Comment by Bob Reno — August 18, 2006 @ 9:54 am

That movie was amazing. I saw it at Shaker Square in Cleveland, OH and we had about 50 people there, but there were cheers. Oh were there cheers. THE LINE was fantastic. But I must say, “oh! man, you got a snake on yo’ ass!” was as good.

There was one dude in our theater though who talked at the movie the whole time. And when there were Snakes in a Toilet, he was screaming, standing up saying “don’t do it! oh shit, you gonna get your dick bit man! O i’m gonna be sick! O shit!” and then it happened. we all screamed at the screen.

Best. Movie. Ever. I’ve never had more fun in a theater. Not kidding.

Subject: …And It Was Good

Friends, my life consists of two distinct periods: before “Snakes on a Plane” and after “Snakes On a Plane.” The period before was a time of ignorance and darkness. The period after can only be described as a time of knowledge and white light, although mere words do it no justice. The Logos of ancient thought descended upon me when Samuel L. uttered the hallowed words: “I’ve had it with these emmer effin snakes on this emmer effin plane!” He meant it, and we all knew, in a way that we had not known anything before, that these snakes had to go.

It wasn’t just about snakes on a plane, although that too. It was about the vipers in our own psychological planes. We must listen to our inner Samuel L. when he ensures us thusly: “do as I say, and you live.” Truer words, my liege, truer words. Only then will the deepest truth be revealed. Thank you, Samuel L. Thank you.

For those who have not yet witnessed this event, who have not sipped at the cup of sacred knowledge, I beseech you to partake. Become initiated. Witness. For, to miss it is to slip into waking death. To drink deeply from yon’ cup is to shed the scales from your eyes, and walk the path of brilliance that is: “Snakes on a Plane.”

May the Samuel L. be with you all.

Comment by David Hoyt — August 18, 2006 @ 10:13 am

It was simply the most amazing movie experience I have ever had. I had high expectations, but this movie blew them all away. I flipped out when Kim was talking about being raised by a single mother and how he turned out alright, and then he smacks the guy with a bat and blood splashes on his white suit. Who could think of that?? Amazing.

Comment by Piotr — August 18, 2006 @ 10:55 am

wow!!!!!!!! That was a movie experience like no other. Showed up with 15 other people, and the whole theatre was made up of other big groups of screaming teenagers. i have been obsessed since first seeing the photoshopped “we got motherfuckin’ snakes!” ad way back in march… as the release day approached i found snakes on a blog, bears on a submarine posters, kept the hype going, but was a little disappointed that my friends were not quite as hyped as i was as this week rolled around and it was the only thing. i didn’t know what to expect, and brought a friend who wasn’t into it at all — we went to a 10pm in new york, it was fuckin amazing, we literally got the last two seats in the theatre!! rubber snakes and t-shirts and posters being handed out and everyone hissing at the 23048230823 previews (except the preview for “long snake moan” with christina ricci and samuel l., we cheered for that). snakes on a tit! snakes in the barf bag! there was so much cheering, squealing, clapping, ppl standing up and goin crazy, throwin snakes around… and i really was in a strange state of shock when i left the theatre — it was such an experience and i was so freakin excited to be there!! S.O.A.P. forever!!!! congrats on getting to go to the premiere!

The crow in florida cheered into the auditorium and did not stop until the credits ended. Some one screamed out Sam Jackson during the credits and everyone started chanting out the names of everyone in the opening credits.

The most awesome film I think I have ever seen

Comment by Snakes4 Ever — August 18, 2006 @ 11:24 am

Even though that movie prolly had one of the worst backstories in history (”I have exausted every other option” -Eddy Kim), that was probably the MOST entertaining movie i have ever seen in a theater. It would have been alot of fun without a HUGE croud, but man it was a BLAST with a huge crowd.

WOW! It’s the morning after and I am still so high on SoaP mania! I saw the permiere in Austin, TX at the South Lamar Alamo Drafthouse at 10PM! It was awesome! The Drafthouse showed several SoaP parodies (racoons on the Space Shuttle was my fave!) and old snake and airplane film clips to get us in the mood. And then the snake handlers brought out a bunch of live rattlesnakes! I got to pet a rattlesnake and they did several cool things (covering a guy with around 10 rattlers, playing catch with one, etc) before they brought out the main showstopper: a live cobra. So cool! There were at least 3 famous folks in the audience: Harry Knowles of AICN, John Lee Hooker, and Quentin Tarantino. Everyone was having fun before the movie started, but when the movie came on the fun really began! Everyone yelled and clapped, and it was just so cool to be part of the excitement!

And the film itself was completely awesome! Stabbing, flamethrowing, biting, gratuitous sex scene! Totally freaking wonderful! I have rarely had so much fun, this is definitely one to watch in a theater!

It’s 10 am and I just got up…so I missed you on the tele. It is my hope that youtube.com will take care of all your apperances for me. David, you made my favorite Final Destination movie and now you’ve made my favorite movie of 2006 thus far……AWESOME! I’m so glad Kenan made it. I really worried. I’ve NEVER been in a theater where people jumped up, clapped, screamed, and cheered before so it was just GREAT! GREAT! The next showing is a matinee in 30 minutes and I’m going to go see it. w00t 100 million opening people! Take your friends, family, and pets…especially if they’re snakes.

I saw it at the Rave in Chattanooga, TN - (ie where SLJ grew up!) and there was a huge cheer at the Tennessee line. There was a realtively small turnout, but like everyone else who posted, there was a ton of clapping and yelling and general happy mayhem.

Comment by mountaincreek — August 18, 2006 @ 11:46 am

Chanting, screaming, laughing, hissing, beachballs, the wave, Giant plush snakes and cardbaord busts of Mace Windu. The crowd was more supportive and insane than the one I was in at the 2006 Coachella.
Our moon landing.

Friggin’ fantastic.
Just an amazing theatre experience as well.

Absoloutely loved the film. It was well past my expectations. It was freakin’ hilarious. I especcially loved the completely over the top cliches. Easily the most entertaining film ive seen in ages. Much more hardcore then I expected as well. Looks like those reshoots were worth the money. Best part? The sick bag. Or the dog throw. He he he.

Comment by MaccyD — August 18, 2006 @ 12:45 pm

*SPOILER ALERT*

Columbus, Ohio loves them some Snakes.

Gotta be honest, the first ten minutes were awful (Byron Lawson is the worst, actor, ever), but once that plane took off…unbelievable. I have never had that much fun at a movie in my life. And the crowd went NUTS when Samuel said his line. Half the crowd said it right along with him, the other half cheered at the tops of their lungs.

Man, did I feel for that married couple that got lit up like a Christmas tree. That guy’s eyes melting like that…brutal. Brutally AWESOME, that is. And MaccyD was right, the dog throw was awesome, too. And the sick bag. And the trouser snake. Heh heh, trouser snake…

One request for those who haven’t seen it yet: no hissing throughout the movie. That got old in a hurry.

The movie, in one word, was fantastic. Last night was, like it was for so many others, the greatest theater movie viewing I’ve ever experienced. We’re were a small crowd of 30-40 people over here, but dammit if we weren’t a plucky bunch.

Repeat viewings? Oh, definitely.

Irrelivent: Nope, I almost ran him over on the way to the restroom before the movie began (he was coming in with a bunch of chicks), but pretty much everyone left him alone. I left the movie at the end credits (had to be at work at 8 AM), but heard when he left the theater late, he signed autographs and had pictures taken with people outside. However, I think it’s kinda uncool to bother people just cause they’re famous, so I had no desire to stare. It was fun to share a movie experience with him, however tenuous. EVERYONE in the theater had a blast with the movie. It’s all good.

Comment by Modernchic — August 18, 2006 @ 1:53 pm

I can’t get enough. The entire movie and audience experience was unparalleled.

My only complaint is that we didn’t see a final showdown with Eddy Kim and Sam L Jackson shoving a snake up his ass.

I honestly don’t think that there was anything I could have expected out of the title “Snakes on a Plane” that this movie did not deliver. Fuckin’ A.

I saw the 10′er last night, and it was outstanding!!!! Cheers at all the right points, and people were already starting shoutouts like in Rocky Horror. The one thing I’m thinking is when they put the show on, costumes are going to kick ass. Just like the movie.

I saw it at midnight in Boston and it was absolutely phenomenal. Before the movie even started, one guy stood up and read the entire Audience Participation Script to everyone so everyone knew what to do. There were so many times that the theathre just erupted into cheers. Definitly Rocky Horror-like.

Thursday 10pm Fenway Theatre Boston.

ABSOLUTELY NUTS.

OH MY GOD.

The AP reviewer attended our screening and LOVED it:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/18/review.snakesonaplane.ap/index.html

Yeah the guy with the Big Bird mask was there and everything. I was literally front row center and it was PACKED.

I had read the novelization previously so I pretty much knew how it would go; I was pretty anxious, though, about how it would turn out on screen. Everything was either as good or better than I expected.

Comment by JoshSpazJosh — August 18, 2006 @ 6:21 pm

WOW, I was hyping this movie because it sounded pathetic, I made lots of fan art submissions, and was going to see what i thought would be a terrible movie… boy was i mistaken

The movie was damn good and unlike so many movies today, not once did i think, ok, ok move along… I think it was an excellent movie and glad we all worked so hard on hyping it. I LOVED the dog part… lol i was waiting for that, though being british myself as soon as a saw a fat bloke with an accent and bad attitude I knew he was dead… and i loved it, lol I love being a token.

One part i wish they just missed out all together though was the surfing at the end… come on… a sex scene with tiffany or Sam’s beau would have been better :P j/k about the sex scene, though it woulda been kinda cool.

What now though :( No DC Lugi… No more hype… this is the day after christmas :( Can’t wait for snakes on a DVD, i think they should interveiw Ben for all the FANTASTIC work he’s done and maybe throw in a few fan vids and sounds :D

Nice work Ben!

Damn! I’m so jealous!!! My hubby and I are really excited about this movie, but we won’t get to see it until 26 September!!! That’s the first time it will show in the military theater over here in Korea. I’ve checked the Korean theaters to see if they would show it this weekend, but no luck. :(

Oh well, maybe that will give people over here more time to get hyped for the Korean premier. Thanks to everyone for sharing their SoaP premier experiences — it got us even more excited about this movie!!!

I’m Sam Jackson’s Webmaster. I took my audio recorder;my video recorder; and my digital camera and I video taped messages to Sam and I took tons of pictures and got tons of audio.

Right now all I have up are the pictures.

The 10 p.m. in Seattle at the CINERAMA!!! was sold out. We had so much fun!
It would seem that we all did the same thing. We cheered in the same places as everyone else and when it was quiet we would go “Ssssssssssssssssssssssssss” it was great.

I’m going to see it again for the audience experience.

Comment by The Diva — August 18, 2006 @ 7:36 pm

Won tickets from a local station here in Las Vegas for the 10 pm screening. The theater wasn’t especially packed, but there were a lot of people who seemed to have been following it for a while which made it all the more fun.

Going to see it again once I get a group together.

Just got back from the film awhile back; definitely the best film of the year that i’ve seen.

Comment by Rare Addict — August 18, 2006 @ 8:39 pm

Saw the 10pm show in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and it was AMAZING. I LOVE Marcus Cinema and their 500-person Ultrascreen.

They had flight attendants dressed up at the front of the theater and made a pre-show announcement over the intercom, ending it and leading into the movie with “Let’s get these motherfucking snakes out of this motherfucking theater!” I was surprised and overjoyed that the staff of their theater would do that.

They also threw rubber snakes out into the crowd, which could be redeemed for prizes (My girlfriend got me a SoaP hat!).

Then, of course the movie itself was a great experience, with full applause from the theater when, like a poster above said:

-When the movie started
-When “Snakes on a Plane” appeared on screen
-When “Samuel L. Jackson” appeared on screen
-At the first sight of Samuel L
-At the first sight of snakes
-When the plane took off
-When the first attack happened
-When the rest of the attacks happened
-When Samuel tazered the snakes
-When Samuel said THE LINE
-When the plane landed
-When the movie ended

SO much fun. Most entertaining cinematic experience I’ve ever had.

I have conficting emotions at the moment. Sadness that the once in a lifetime moment that this presented is now gone, never to return. But that is tempered with an unadulterated sense of pure joy and elation that this movie brought me. Mr Ellis, Mr Jackson, Brian and everyone who worked and hyped this movie didn’t disappoint me. I may die childless and alone, but I’ll die happy because Snakes On A Plane kicked so many types of arse that there would be a queue of arses waiting to be kicked lasting until a tuesday next millenium and it still wouldn’t sum up just how fucking great this movie was. Thank you, it’s been emotional

I haven’t had this much fun at a movie since…hell, been too long.

I went with a group of four to the 11:30 AM showing in Buena Park, CA. Oddly enough, there weren’t a lot of people at our theater, but the number of Elderly folk amazed me.

We were cheering the loudest. My boyfriend is calling this the greatest movie ever made. I just loved it.

Suggested titles for the sequel:

-Snakes on Cakes
-Snakes on a Hummer
-Snakes on a Boat
-Snakes on a Stripper’s Ass
-Snakes on the Laundry

I cannot wait to see how the DVD release goes. This is definitely a flick they should include some audience participation with.

The audience in Philly went WILD. During all the ominous moments just before snake attacks, everyone hissed: “SSSSSSSSSSSSSS!” We must have hissed about 15 times, and it seemed like no one got tired of it. Of course the entire theater clapped, screamed and shouted in sheer delirious joy at all key points of the film, and some dudes in the front row tried to make snake shadowpuppets against the screen. People were jumping out of their seats and pumping their fists in the air! All our yelling drowned out the last half of The Line. All said, I have NEVER seen so much audience participation in a theater showing a Hollywood new release.

My favorite line was, “I was raised by a single mother, and I turned out okay! HAW HAW HAW!!”

I’ll admit it: the extreme hype for SOAP nearly wore me out, nearly made me sick of the concept before I even saw the film. My boyfriend and I went to see it anyway, though, and I’m so glad I did. As we entered the theater, all my cynicism just vanished, and the movie was awesome!! And no, it wasn’t a “so bad it’s good” kind of awesome. It really was just good old fashioned FUN, like movies are supposed to be!

I’m glad I was there on opening night, because it truly felt like a historic occasion. I hope that SOAP helps to reverse Hollywood’s disdain for its audience and tendency to water everything down for a PG-13 rating.

I feel like I missed out, having been in such an empty theater. At my showing, there were maybe 20 people in the theater, tops, most of whom stayed completely quiet the whole time.

When “the line” finally came, there was not applause, but quiet laughter. I just might have to see it again tonight or Sunday at a time when more people are there.

SNAKES ON A “PLATE” - eat your FEAR

Recipe for Fried Snake:
Ingredience:

1 lb. skinned snake, cut in 1-inch peices

1 cup sherry

1/2 tsp. black pepper

1/2 tsp All-season

1/4 cup lemon juice

1/2 cup Italian salad dressing

flour

Marinate peices of snake in mixture of sherry, pepper, all season, lemon juice and Italian dressing for up to 2 hours. (depending on length of flight) Drain and dredge in flour. Fry for about 15 minutes, turning often until brown. Drain and serve hot.

Note: As this can be prepared quickly, it is well suited to a first -class in-flight meal, using a chafing dish and a small burner. The fresher the snake the better the result, preferably killed as they roam the isles of the plane and then plated and served with a good white wine.

ENJOY

That was my yahoo 360 blog today. There are a million snake stories in the naked city!

I snuck out of work to catch the Friday 1pm matinee in Lowell, MA. There were only 8 of us in the theatre but that didnt’ stop me from laughing and screaming my ass off. Funnny, scary, campy with gratututous sex as well … it was great. During the line I stood up by myself and screamed it as loud as could.

Goin back for more … hopefully with a larger crowd this time.

Comment by tasty-snake-dude — August 19, 2006 @ 12:33 pm

Wow. Wow. WOW!

I was hyped up but kept telling myself to take it as a ’so bad it’s good’ movie so I wouldn’t be disapointed.

Disapointed? HELL NO! I was AMAZED. It was ORGASMIC.

The concept is so simple…snakes…plane… you would think that we’d get tired of it, it would get old…. I mean, RHPS has a bunch of little things that you can go with, Snakes on a Plane just has two. And yeah, maybe 3 people in our theatre got tired of the hissing but the rest of us found every moment hilarious. It was perfect. It was everything the hype hoped for AND MORE. I wasn’t sure how many people at the theatre would ‘get it’… walking up (we’d gotten tickets in advance) there was a huge line which we guessed was for Step Up or whatever other triteness was going on…but then we heard people calling to each other “Snakes on a Plane!” “Hey, SNAKES ON A PLANE!” Once seated, with the audience hissing at any person who walked in…. and the manager turned on the lights to say we should enjoy it, but not get too rowdy–he’d called the police on the last crowd…..I knew that the participation ALONE would be awesome.

But the movie itself was FANTASTIC. It was brilliant. Perfect. Solid. Hysterical. LOVE. It didn’t try too hard to be anything it wasn’t, it didn’t try to be serious, it didn’t try to have a complex meaningful plot, it didn’t try to be oh-so-scary or dramatic or cliche comedy, it was SNAKES ON A PLANE and that’s all it needed to be, that’s what we WANTED it to be and it was.

We didn’t have any throwing of rubber snakes unfortunately and I wanted to draw snake+plane=snakesonaplane designs on me but it was too cold to wear clothes that would show it. I want to go again, and again, and again.

On Thursday night, I saw “Snakes on a Plane.” It was great — maybe not great like “La Strada” or “Ikuru” or “Godfather II” but great nonetheless. Interestingly enough our experience demonstrated that some of the conventional “wisdom” namely, the “madness of crowds” as an explanation for audience qppreciation is plain dumb. We saw it in a neighborhood theater on the fashionable and posh upper East Side of Manhattan (E. 60h St. and 3rd Ave. or, for demographics fans, 10022). The audience consisted of 12 hardy souls, the youngest of whom might have been 35. There were a few brave and good-natured attempts to shout things at the screen, such as, “Dont go there, girl!” and yes we or, at least, several of us applauded at “the line” but, by and large, the Cinema Three 12 were enthralled, amused, thrilled, scared and entertained. The moviemakers navigated an artful line between honoring scary movie conventions and using cliches. There were some nice suspense touches that would have made Hitchcock proud. (Read “Hitchcock: Truffaut”) It was entertaining, gripping and fun. It was a great night at the movies. Go thou and enjoy.

I am SO depressed right now–all you people had these wonderful experiences, and I had to go to Hicksville, NJ, where hardly ANYONE got it. I am JEALOUS as all get out. If I didn’t have to work the next day, I would have made the hour-drive to the only theater in NJ that I knew of that WAS having a party. I’m seriously thinking of going again tonight, in hopes that it will be better. If not, I’m gonna have to wait for “SoaP-CON 2007″!!!

Best. Movie. EVER.

Comment by Alex — August 19, 2006 @ 5:12 pm

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, as lots of my friends were rumbling that the whole SoaP media virus had supposedly blown its wad, leaving the movie inevitably anticlimatic, but since a friend of mine is throwing a SoaP theme party (heading over as soon as I finish this, BTW), I figured “what the hell!” and got tickets for my friend Lisa & I at the noon matinee at the Loews Boston Common. We were the 2nd & 3rd people in the theater for it–one black guy was already there, and got a big kick out of the “audience participation” script we gave him (found it online last night and ran off some copies; I forget them afterwards in the ladies’ room, but hopefully someone else is pissing their pants laughing now!). Well…the “conventional wisdom” about the virus running its course was So. Wrong.–the movie was MUCH better than I’d anticipated it being. It was actually a pretty tight little thriller, humorous in places, but not in a smirky, “see how clever we are” way–sure, it’s cheese, but it’s well-crafted, unpretentious and enjoyable cheese (kind of like the difference between a good sharp Cheddar and generic Velveeta, eh?), and isn’t that what we all need sometimes? As it turned out, there were only about 25-30 people tops at our screening, and I’m sure some of them are still wondering what the fuck was up with the two crazy white chicks who started screaming The Line along with Sam and high-fiving each other…damn, I really want to see this again in a theater packed full of wild & crazy folks! Anyone up for organizing a participatory viewing in Boston?…

Josh Friedman, for getting the ball rolling in the first place), and last but certainly not least to The Man, the coolest motherfucker on the entire planet, and the person I’d want on my side in any kind of battle, Samuel L. Jackson, for not only doing yet another kickass characterization, but for going to the mat and demanding that the original title be kept in the first place…you had no idea what you were unleashing with your insisting that it stay “Snakes on a Plane” and not be changed to the namby-pamby “Pacific Air 121″, but you, sir, are a man of both genius and principle, and the world is a far better place for it. *bows humbly*

9:30 screening at 14th Street in New York City here. I went with a group of friends who had long ago agreed that the only appropriate time to see this would be during the opening weekend; any other time it’d just be a movie, but as I later explained to someone else, “opening weekend turns it into something like a 50’s Beatnik ‘happening’.”

The theater we were at didn’t organize anything for the screening, but we brought our own fun. Two of my friends had actually been on vacation in Florida, and actually had flown home THAT DAY so they coud see it with us. They found a pair of rubber snakes while on vacation and brought them into the cabin just so they could take a picture of “snakes on a plane” to show us — then they asked the airline to check them, so they could have the snakes tagged with official luggage tags. I, meanwhile, had found some gummi rattlesnakes, and bought up three packages to share with the group. But the best swag came from the second couple, who’d found a toy store carrying snake handpuppets; squeezing a little bulb inside the mouth made the snake hiss and flick a little rubber tongue tucked inside.

We got to the theater an hour before showtime and there was already a line nine deep. We happily got into line behind them, and quickly others fell into line behind us; we spent the next half hour working ourselves into a gummi rattlesnake sugar high and hissing our snake hand puppets at each other and at random strangers. I burst out laughing when I overheard someone reacting to us; he had come in with a bunch of friends, and first walked to the head of the line to confirm it was for SOAP, then walked back to see how long the line already was, and then saw us with the puppets. “Wow,” he muttered to his friends, “and I thought WE were obsessed.”

The crowd was actually a little on the subdued side. No standing up or jumping out of the seats. But we did get a couple talkbacks during the previews — uproarious laughter when we saw the title “Black Snake Moan” on one of them, and then laughter again when one guy shouted out, “it’s Snakes on a Chain!”

People cheered when the title came on, when SLJ’s name appeared on the credits, when the snakes burst loose…when the honeymooning couple first was introduced, and the husband afraid to fly told his wife that he agreed to a honyemoon in Hawaii “because you wanted it, sweetie,” the entire audience said “awwwwwww…..” and I instantly knew they were going to die.

There was a lot of anticipation of The Line. Throughout the film, whenever it looked like SLJ was getting especially mad, someone shouted out “Say it!” And when it finally came —

“Enough is enough!”
*cheers!*
“I have had it with these muthafuckin’…”
*cheers obscuring the rest of the line*

I took myself to see “SNAKES ON A PLANE” again! Hoping for a better audience on a Saturday night, I was sorely disappointed–fewer people than on Thursday. But there was still cheering at THE LINE, and I feel somewhat better–not so depressed anymore. Thanks for cheering me up, Sam.

So I just got back from an evening showing at the Poulsbo, WA Regal and I have one thing to say:

SNAKES ON A BOOB.

It was a great experience. There was maybe 40-50 people in the theatre, but as many others have already said, we made up for lack of numbers with enthusiam! People were cheering - especially after the line, after SLJ’s name was shown and when SLJ first made an appearance - and we all just had a lot of fun cheering and laughing and groaning during the more graphic parts (like the snake on a boob and the snake on a cock!). My favourite moment was definitely the snake in a microwave, though, closely followed by the giant snake squeezing the mean dog-killer :P I smell an Oscar!

Saw the film tonight at the DRIVE-IN THEATRE! Me and my friends thought that would be the spiritually correct place to view SoaP, and we were right. We trucked out to the Mission Tiki Drive-In in Montclair, California, a 40 mile journey. But it was worth it.

The only problem, we didn’t get the close-in vibe of a crowd of SoaP lovin’ muthafuckas cheering their asses off. SO that means I’m gonna have to go see it again tomorrow in a regular theatre!!!! Just doing my part to up the weekend box office take. Everybody make sure they watch Entertainment Tonight on Monday to see how much moolah the flick pulled in…

Just saw Snakes in Minneapolis… it was a fabulous, laugh-filled time! I even screamed a few times in surprise.

Thank you to the guy that yelled, “Sporks on a plane!”

And thanks for the surf scene in the end. It made complete sense. :)

[...] I saw Snakes on a Plane last night, and it was everything I had hoped for. The movie quality was much better than I expected, and Samuel L. Jackson was as bad-ass as ever. The slimy reptiles had fantastic kills, and the small crowd that I saw it with was very much into it. Cheers and claps came when Sam said his famous line. Check out this post from Snakes on a Blog. It has over 100 reactions from fans, and virtually every one of them had an amazing experience. If you didn’t attend an opening night/weekend showing of S.O.A.P. you truly missed out since this is definitely a movie to see with an enthusiastic and large crowd. [...]

BOOBIES ON A PLANE!

SNAKES ON A BOOB!

Comment by Brick — August 20, 2006 @ 2:02 pm

Snakes on a Plane was awsome. It was just as everyone…well at least me expected and more. Samuel L. Jackson is the best. Ever since Die Hard. He was awsome at Comic-con cursing and what not. It was great because I was there laughing my ass off with everyone else. They made snakes bite people in places never…attempted before, the director really new what he was doing.

And who would’ve known you could land a jumbo jet by laying playstation :-)

[...] People have described their experiences with audiences in the comments to previous posts and all I can say is that New Line was wise enough to invite enough bloggers and other fans to the premiere (through MySpace contests and other means) that people were genuinely excited to be there and knew when to cheer. It was raucous. My experience with the crowd mirrors that of people who went to packed houses on opening night. [...]

Posting a little late to this discussion, but …
I was at the 10 pm showing last Thursday in San Francisco, experienced and participated in the bedlam, the hissing, the throwing of snakes, shared by others on this post, but also the crowd started shouting “Troy! Troy! Troy!” constantly after he took over to fly the plane … a new hero?

THe most fun i’v eever had at a movie. Saw it on Sunday with a group of friends, small turnout but it was in a rednecky part of town. But we made it worth it. Lots of screaming and cheering and laughing and everything.

And a great tiem was had by all.

Best movie, ever? Really? So you’re saying of all the movies ever made since film was introduced to a paying audience, “Snakes on a Plane” is the best… ever! Loser!

Best movie, ever? Really? So you’re saying of all the movies ever made since film was introduced to a paying audience, “Snakes on a Plane” is the best… ever? That’s the dumbest statement ever made! No, wait… let’s see, of all the statements ever made, would that be the dumbest? Umm… yes!

Comment by Sam — August 21, 2006 @ 4:31 pm

I saw the film Friday night in Tyson’s Corner, after reading the posts here and realising that it’d be best to catch it ASAP, as opposed to waiting for a Saturday matinee like we’d originally planned.

I had mixed feelings about the movie itself, but the fan interaction was INCREDIBLE. Cheers in all the usual spots, and my favourite: when they ran the main title, and “Snakes” appears first with a delay, someone shouted “WHERE ARE THE SNAKES??” and we all were laughing like crazy.

Personally, I thought the movie overdid the ol’ “morality play” thing. If there’s a big-ass snake heading my way and a crunchy dog nearby, damn straight I’m tossing the dog to the snake. Hell, I’d even toss a cat to the snake. Sorry, that’s just real life. But they just *had* to punish the British guy immediately for doing that (I’m also totally with him on the suckiness of sitting by a baby on a flight, so sue me).

I also wish the movie had done a better job maintaining momentum… lots of parts were hilarious, but there were definite slow points as well, which will make it more difficult for this to be the next Rocky Horror (and SOAP is way cooler, so that is saddening).

Overall, though, a great experience.

So the other night I got a little drunk and went to the movies with a large cardboard Big Bird mask on. Next thing I know, it’s on the NPR website.

Thanks Snakes on a Plane, you really helped me break out of my shell.

*Starts crying*

I never knew it came out thursday or I would have seen it with everybody else, man. BUt I went to see it on the 19th and man

Snakes, man, wouldn’t you know it it happened to be very good, and original. I already knew what was coming (although there were like, 10 of us there on the 19th) it was awesome. And knowing when THE LINE came up I shouted it much to the chagrin of the couple sitting next to me. And a few people that were below me cheered too.

I danced along to the song, and now I want to get the song. I’m starting a lobbying campaign with a few friends of mine (who don’t know about it yet) to get the SOAP book and DVD in at all major libraries (and hey, maybe even over at Barnes and NOble those snot nosed… I’m rambling, sorry)

But the movie was fragging Awesome. Many punchlines for everybody to use. and the scene where the lights goes out and the guy yells “SNAKES!” just made me laugh all the more.

David R. Ellis, and all you newline people, thank you for such a movie Experience. Expect more money when I go to see it again after payday, and more money when it comes in at the dollar 50 movie theater(where I plan to make it SOAP day!). :D I’m so there.

Again, even to Brian, thanks for Snakes on a Blog. I’ll keep my thoughts on your other project to the respective posts. But it was your website that 1. kept my interest going, and 2. kept me in touch with other snakesonaplaniacs all over the world, or so.

this is getting a little long, so the rest of my thoughts are over on my livejournal.

The film was released yesterday in New Zealand and I saw it during the day, so the crowd us me, 6 friends, and a handful of other people. Even without a big crowd, it was the most fun I’ve ever had at the movies.

It was so, so much better than I ever thought it would be. I thought it’d be one of those “so bad it’s good” movies, but it turned into much more. It is the best type of Hollywood film, the type that knows it’s a Hollywood film and doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t, but instead reminds you of how much fun you can have at the movies. Two of my great loves (films and the Internet) have had a one-night stand, and this is their astounding hybrid lovechild. It is the movie that the fans wanted it to be, and it delivers (and then some) on all counts.

Worth the admission price for Samuel L. Jackson’s famous line alone. With a ludicrous title like “Snakes on a Plane”, they’ve made it the best film that it could possibly be.

I got this cool leaflet at the theatre describing “Safety instructions in the event of snakes on a plane.” I think I might actually frame it, as priceless pop culture memorabilia.

Check out the leaflet here:
