Snakes on a Logic Puzzle
July 25th, 2006 at 10:13 pm

Ann was kind enough to create the first Snakes on a Plane based logic puzzle. Here’s the setup:

Pacific Air Flight 121 is in trouble! Some motherfucker has released snakes on the motherfucking plane! Needless to say, the passengers are terrified, but there’s good news! Samuel L. Jackson, that badass motherfucker, is on the flight! Six of the passengers–Barbara, Cindy, George, Mike, Ralph, and Tina–had particularly harrowing encounters with venomous snakes (a black mamba, a boomslang, an taipan, a gaboon viper, a king cobra, and a rattlesnake), but Samuel saved them all from certain death (he strangled one snake with his bare hands). Can you figure out what type of snake each person encountered and how Samuel took it out?

The rest of the information needed to solve the puzzle can be found on the site.  Who can solve it first?

Took me 15 minutes.

Barbara encounted the king cobra, but Sam used it as a whip.
Cindy encountered the boomslang, but Sam crushed it under his foot.
George encountered the taipan, but Sam strangled it with his bare hands.
Mike encountered the gaboon viper, but Sam shot it.
Ralph encountered the rattlesnake, but Sam tasered it.
Tina encountered the black mamba, but Sam threw it out the emergency exit.

Barbara encountered the king cobra, but Sam used it as a whip
Cindy encountered the boomslang but Sam crushed it
George encountered the Taipan but Sam shot it
Mike encountered the rattler but Sam tasered it
Ralph encountered the gaboon viper, but Sam shot it
Tina encountered the black mamba but Samn threw it out the emergency exit

I’ve got different than everybody else…

Barbara encountered the black mamba, but Sam used it as a whip.
Cindy encountered the king cobra, but Sam crushed it underfoot.
George encountered the taipan, but Sam strangled it.
Mike encountered the viper, but Sam shot it.
Ralph encountered the rattlesnake, but Sam tasered it.
Tina encountered the boomslang, but Sam threw it out the door.

Is there really only one answer? Can we ask the creator of the puzzle?

I just did it again myself, and there definitely seems to only be one answer. I’ll add it to the page, I think…I probably should have done that. :-)

Barbara, king cobra, whip
Cindy, boomslang, crushed
George, taipan, strangled
Mike, gaboon, shot
Ralph, rattler, taser
Tina, black mamba, threw out

This was the first one of these I’d ever made. Hopefully, I’ll iron out any mental kinks for the future (if there is one).

Note: The solution’s been added to the page.

Hah, got it, except I forgot “strangled” since it mentions that in the paragraph above (and I just copied and pasted into word the 1-6 lines).

[...] I posted a Logic Puzzle for you to enjoy last week, well MacPhile was kind enough to make us one more: Few people were surprised by the popularity of the New Line Cinema film, Snakes on a Plane, and few were surprised when several other movie studios tried to cash in on its success. Five separate movies were made soon after Snakes on a Plane appeared in theaters, each with a different actor, animal (one featured lemurs), and mode of transportation (in one instance, animals terrorized a small town on a Segway). All 5 movies signed a different major Hollywood actor. Five friends (one was Jake) decided to take in a movie one hot summer afternoon, and each one opted to see the film starring their favorite actor. From the following clues, can you determine each child’s favorite actor, what animals that actor saved innocent people from, what mode of transportation those animals used, and where the movies ranked in gross profit (1st being the highest profit and 5th being the lowest)? [...]

Snakes on a What?
Snakes on a Blog documents my quest to attend the Hollywood premiere of Snakes on a Plane. If I'm really lucky, this blog will do more than just document the quest, it will aid it. Read my first and second pleas.
