Snakes on Snakes on a Plane at Comic-Con (UPDATED)
July 22nd, 2006 at 10:56 am

Today was my big day at Comic-Con. Here’s what I did:

    • Interviewed Sam Jackson 1 on 1.
    • Interviewed Sam Jackson at a blogger roundtable.
    • Interviewed the Snake Wrangler 1 on 1.
    • Interviewed the Snake Wrangler at a blogger roundtable.
    • Interviewed David Ellis 1 on 1.
    • Interviewed David Ellis at a blogger roundtable.
    • Interviewed Kenan Thompson 1 on 1.
    • Attended the Snakes on a Plane presentation.

The interviews all went pretty well, I barely started crying at all. I’ll be posting video for most of them next week, but I have one of the videos right now: my 1 on 1 with Kenan Thompson. It’s 10 minutes long and covers a lot of fan-submitted questions. Highlights include Kenan’s impression of Bill Cosby encountering Snakes on a Plane and a rapper who meanders in and hands Kenan a postcard. I’ll get a transcript up next week:

New Line’s presentation was interesting… after a few non-SoaP related presentations (which the crowd was generally NOT into) we got to the meat of the presentation. There’s lenghty coverage at AICN and I feel loathe to retype it. Go here and read their full review of the evening.

Here’s the short version: New Line opened with a few minutes with Jules the snake wrangler followed by a few minutes with David Ellis. This was good, but then they moved into a full 10 minutes of film. This was not an extended trailer but a 10 minute chunk from the center of the film. There were snakes, there was swearing, there was snake whipping, there was bite after bite after bite… it was good.

Following the 10 minutes of film Samuel L. Jackson entered in the dark yelling his infamous line. The crowd went crazy. He sat down with Kenan Thompson, Jules the snake wrangler, and David Ellis for the best Q&A I’ve ever heard. It was hysterical the full way through. IGN is supposed to post a video of the Q&A, but I can’t find it on their site. Let me know if you find it anywhere?

I’ve been asked not to post the 10 minute clip from the film. Sigh.

UPDATED at 6:27pm - The video is now working.

Is it me or does the interview have no sound?

Comment by Lemmy — July 22, 2006 @ 11:17 am

No, you’re right. The original definitely has sound, but the youtube version does not. Damn. Ok, I’m going to have to try to re-encode it.

Those were the greatest ten minutes of my life. EVER.

I’ve never laughed so hard in my life; my friend asked the question about realistic snake behavior which was one of the funniest responses in the Q&A. Man, That was so awesome. The whole SoaP presentation was great.

When is the interview going to be up?

Comment by Josh — July 22, 2006 @ 5:36 pm

Does anyone have a youtubed version of that 30 minute IGN link Code Dark posted? Or a downloadable version? IGN’s player keeps crashing my browser.

OK I saw it nevermind. Sam was on top of every asswipe question like white on rice, it was beautiful. And DC Lugi’s “Sam Jackon’s My Bro” got a shout out. Couldn’t ask for a better Q&A.

Is this a movie - or a movement?

Yeah my POS computer that I’m currently on won’t let me watch the IGN clips without crashing or some crap. Anyone know a youtube or downloadable version?

Looks like the SoaP thing was on G4 today. I tuned it right after it had aired, though. Heh.

[...] I also went to the panel in a huge room later that evening, filled with 5,000 or so Comic Con attendees. The panel was quite entertaining, especially because of how Samuel Jackson handled the questions from the nerdy crowd. They also brought in some live snakes and showed a 10-minute clip from the film. (Unrelated: they also screened 5 minutes or so of the new Tenacious D rock opera movie, which looked great.) Watch the panel, and/or read Brian’s coverage. [...]

Thanks for the links, fellas.

On another note that Kenan interview… Bill Cosby!! Hahahaha!

Comment by Russian Snakes Boy — July 24, 2006 @ 10:10 am

IGN changed up the URL on us (with 20% to go on my download. argh.)

Go to http://ffmovies.ign.com/filmforce/video/article/720/720471/snakes_comic_con_072106_qthighwide_flvlow.flv and it seems to direct you to where it wants to grab the file from now.

My ‘garter snake’ dial up service sucks ‘3 step’ venom and won’t let me watch.
When will the transcript of this and the SJackson interview be posted?
