Snakes on Greenland
July 3rd, 2006 at 10:26 am

I have heard tell of quite the adventure:

I have been involved in scientific research expeditions to Greenland for the past four years as a graduate student at the University of Michigan. This trip involves flying to the Greenlandic ice cap on a military cargo plane (a C-130) equipped with skis.

Well, you’d never guess what happened… flying commercially to the Air National Guard base in NY, there were SNAKES ON THE PLANE! And then, flying to Greenland, there were MORE SNAKES ON THE PLANE! Even on our trip to the ice cap, SNAKES WERE ON THE PLANE!

And so they were:

SoaP Greenland SoaP Greenland SoaP Greenland

SoaP Greenland SoaP Greenland SoaP Greenland

SoaP Greenland SoaP Greenland SoaP Greenland

SoaP Greenland SoaP Greenland

There are also more, non-snakes related, pictures of Dan’s trip.

Ha, yeah, sort of. I always have a pile of stuff sitting in my inbox waiting to be dealt with. It’s sitting on the server waiting for me to press submit to put it online, so when I’m busy I can post something without much work. This one was posted last night, but scheduled to go online this morning. There’s one more coming in another half an hour or so, if you’re patient.

The next one’s a little bit more meaty.

Also, I liked the Cargo plane setting, I hadn’t seen that before.

Well, if you want some news, Comic-con (basically the biggest comic convention ever) this year will have none other than Sammy J. AND David Ellis to have a panel discussion on SoaP.
“One of the hottest movies of the summer is New Line’s Snakes On A Plane and it’s coming to Comic-Con! Join star Samuel L. Jackson and director David R. Ellis for a Comic-Con exclusive panel discussion starting at 5:45PM on Friday, July 21 in Hall H.”
I go to comic-con every year while visiting relatives in San Diego, so I’m hoping that maybe Sammy will be signing autographs. That would be totally bitchin’. Any questions you guys want me to try and ask him?

We’re flying down to Florida the last week of August, and my daughter just got two inflatable snakes at a yard sale. Can’t wait to see what kind of hilarity ensues when we bring THOSE on board. Pictures WILL be taken, I assure you–that is, if this blog is still here after Aug. 18?????

I’m gonna do the same when I fly out to CA. I was thinking on taking a video w/ camera phone, but I don’t think you can put that on the computer? I’m hoping I can figure out something…

While taking these, I tried to get a picture of the stewardess holding one of the snakes. She said “No. I’m not a prop.”

Good times.

Everyone who’s going on vacation this summer should take pictures of themselves on their plane w/ rubber snakes and send ‘em in–we could start a little collection.

Well, bringing plastic snakes onto a plane is nothing new, but what I *do* like about these sorts of things is the other passengers trying desperately to ignore it. You can almost hear them thinking, “Damn kids…I’m trying to read Grisham over here!”

If we end up with thousands of airline passengers reenacting the movie, people will start regretting ever having complained about crying babies or kids kicking their seat. Maybe the airlines will introduce SoaP and non-SoaP sections…

I can see it now–National Lampoon’s “Snakes on a Vacation!” Starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, and Samuel L. Jackson! “I am tired of these M-F’in snakes on my M-F’n RV!!” I like it! ;-)

Yeah, and then we’ll start a new airline stereotype–rather than obnoxious kid or nervous flyer or ‘I-Pod Girl’, the sequel to SoaP will feature a new passenger character; ‘raving SoaPie’!
