Snakes on a Tagworld Contest Winner Announced Tomorrow

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Tagworld has written to let me know that they’ll be announcing the contest winner tomorrow morning (I suppose that’s tomorrow morning LA time so probably tomorrow noonish Eastern time).  Despite the lengthy delays in the contest, I admit I’m curious about the winner.

Check back tomorrow.

Snakes on an Over Achiever

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Sam Lowell was smart enough to win an award for gifted students and land in the newspaper. What made him even smarter, though, was that he wore his Snakes on a Plane shirt for the photograph:

See if you can spot him. Sam was also kind enough to include this poem that I posted with the rest of the poems. Enjoy.

UPDATED: Snakes on a Soundtrack

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

My limitless network of spies just passed along this piece of information:

The soundtrack for Snakes on a Plane will be released on August 15th. In addition to the score by Trevor Rabin, it will include original songs written for the film by Cee-lo (the lead singer of Gnarls Barkley), Donavon Frankenreiter, Cobra Starship, Spearhead, and the first and second place winners from the Tagworld Contest.

So, hopefully we’ll be hearing two good Tagworld songs on the soundtrack, if Tagworld ever gets around to announcing the winners. (By the way, I’ve checked with them and they claim they’re going to be announcing a winner this week. Don’t hold your breath.)

Updated 7/21/06 at 7:10pm: Also, here’s a lengthy story about Trevor Rabin scoring the movie which includes a few pictures of the orchestra, David Ellis and Trevor Rabin.

Snakes on a Comcast Internet Connection

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

This is going to be my first off-message post, but I wanted to explain that I’ve been having a difficult time getting online for the last few weeks, which makes me slower at posting and returning emails than I would otherwise like. I have had only intermittent internet connectivity since I moved to my new apartment on June 1.

At one point Comcast sent a technician to replace my cable modem/wireless router. This should have taken five minutes. Instead, when he called Comcast to activate my new modem, he was placed on hold for nearly 90 minutes. When I asked him why he was on hold for so long, he told me that phone reps were busy filling out customer service surveys. Then he fell asleep on my couch. I could have made a few suggestions for their survey.

Anyway, after they missed two appointments in the last 24 hours, I’ve finally lost all hope of Comcast actually getting my internet connection working. To commemorate my miserable experience, I made this video (including footage of the technician asleep on my couch):

Snakes on a Contest II Winner

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

After a week of furious voting, we have our winner. It was a close contest, but in the end the best Snakes on a Plane related photo was:

slantyhouse21.jpg

This picture, elegantly titled slantythouse2.jpg, was your favorite, closely eeking out the monkey. As promised, the winner of this contest will receive a copy of the teaser poster, a shirt of the winner’s choice from either ShelfLife’s CafePress store or Damnation’s store, and a limited edition bracelet from Goods For Giving with Snakesonaplaniac imprinted. The winner of this contest is:

Max Pacheco

Congratulations Max. You are, however, expected to send in a picture of yourself wearing your chosen shirt and bracelet while standing in front of your poster. Come on, IQpierce did it.

In commemoration of this occasion, Damnation was kind enough to produce a special edition shirt with a limited printing of only one. This shirt will be completely unique and only available to Max:

And, since I’m sure you’re curious, here were all the submissions. I admit, this contest was not as wildly popular as I had hoped.

Any suggestions for the next contest? Perhaps suggestions that will engender a little bit more participation? I’m willing to admit I’m not brilliant in this area.

Snakes on a Clerks Video

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

A few weeks ago we heard that Clerks II had moved their opening weekend to avoid going up against Snakes on a Plane. Well, to comemorate that decision, someone put together a combination Clerks/Snakes on a Plane trailer:

Snakes on Fangoria Magazine

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

The upcoming issue of Fangoria Magazine features a gory picture on the cover which I think is from Snakes on a Plane. It’s actually tough to tell. The snake in the picture has a dropshadow which means it was probably added on top of the photo… anybody know if this picture is from the movie? (Also, it’s gross, beware…)

UPDATE Posted 6/17/06 at 9:49am: After hearing from somebody involved with the production of the movie I can say that this is indeed a photograph of an extra from the film.  Gross.

Snakes on a Q&A with David Ellis and his Daughter/Producing Partner Tawny

Friday, June 16th, 2006

Yesterday I posted an interview with Agam “iPod Girl” Darshi based in large part on questions suggested by readers.  As many of you know, David Ellis (director of Snakes on a Plane) reads, and occasionally comments, on this site. I figured it might be fun to do something similar with him. I checked with David Ellis and both he, and his daughter/producing partner Tawny Ellis, would be happy to answer questions.

However, since I’m fairly uncreative, I need help coming up with questions. Post your questions for David Ellis and his daughter Tawny in the comments below. I’ll take the best questions, forward them along, and post the responses next week.

I’m expecting some good work from you people. Let’s make this a good interview.

Snakes on an iPod Girl Interview

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

Today I present a Snakes on a Blog first, an authentic interview with a member of the cast of Snakes on a Plane. Agam Darshi plays the unforgettably named iPod Girl and she was kind enough to answer a few questions. The most important thing that you’ll learn from this interview is that iPod Girl doesn’t carry an iPod at all, but some sort of Dell MP3 player… shocking!

Here’s a few pictures of Agam to give you an idea of who we’re talking to.

Anyway, here’s the full email interview, make sure to read the rest after the break:

SnakesonaBlog (SoaB): First of all, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Adam Darshi (AD): I was born in Birmingham England and raised in Canada. I grew up in Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, San Jose for a bit, and now Vancouver. I studied theatre at the University of Calgary, but never really thought about it as a profession until I moved to Vancouver and got an agent. Since then things have been going fairly well and I’ve been focusing on it more and more ever since.

Snakes on a Blog VII

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

Welcome to the monthly stats update, I know people go crazy for these… just crazy:

I’ve been online for 153 days. I’ve had over 600,000 visitors. I’ve posted 308 stories which received 2,332 comments (and 1,796 blocked spam comments). There have been 2,000,000 requests for pages, and a staggering 36,000,000 requests for all files (these are mostly people hotlinking to images, comics, and icons that I’ve hosted and posting them on other forums around the net). I’ve transferred 980 gigabytes of data. The most popular day of the week is Friday. The most popular hour of the day is between 1pm and 2pm EST.

I’ve gotten ten free t-shirts, one free hat, one free button and one free mug. A fan started petition requesting I be allowed to attend the premiere is over 1350 signatures. There are currently 51 translations of “Snakes on a Plane” into foreign languages. I’ve been interviewed by three TV crews. SnakesOnABlog.com has appeared in a large number of newspaper stories, by 898 blogs, and over 6,635 other webpages.

But my goal was not to build stats. My goal was not to get free t-shirts or high hit-counts. My goal was to attend the Hollywood premiere of Snakes on a Plane. If that doesn’t come to pass, then all the rest of this work was for nothing. Read my first, second and third pleas to hear more. My goals are looking pretty good at this point. David Ellis, the director, has said that I’d be coming to the premiere in several interviews… but the quest doesn’t end until I’m standing on the red carpet.

Previous stats updates: first, second, third and fourth.

Snakes on a High Definition Teaser Trailer

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

I have gotten my hands on a high definition copy of the teaster trailer that we formerly only had a bootleg copy of. It’s 1080p, which is too much for my wimpy computer, but those of you with stronger computers than mine should be able to handle it. We no longer only have a shaky-cam version of the teaser, but can now enjoy it in its full splendor:

It’s 11 megabytes.  For those of you, like me, with computers of questionable quality, it can also be viewed at YouTube.

Snakes on an Official Music Video

Saturday, June 10th, 2006

MTV has a story about the filming of the official Snakes on a Plane music video by a band called, ironically or appropriately, Cobra Starship.

“We actually didn’t want to make it too literal about snakes on a plane, so we used a metaphor of snakes being like shady dudes,” Saporta said.

“Like in the [music] industry, like snakes in suits in the back of the plane,” Beckett added. “That way it’s not completely just a joke.”

McCoy’s verse, for instance, begins, “Ladies and gentlemen, snakes are slitherin’/ With dollar signs in their eyes and tongues so reptilian.”

“I don’t think any rapper has used reptilian in a verse, so I’m gonna pat myself on my back,” McCoy joked.

Uh, well, ok… anyway, there’s also a slideshow of photos from the music video and a video story about it. Enjoy… you know, if this seems at all appealing to you.

Snakes on a Concerts and Music Videos

Friday, June 9th, 2006

I posted a song written by the Former Fat Boys a while ago. They recently were in the top 25 at the Tagworld contest and are in consideration for a spot in the soundtrack. Here’s a short video of them doing thier song in concert (including a cameo by George W. Bush).
