Snakes on Tagworld Winners
June 23rd, 2006 at 12:09 pm

Tagworld officially announced the winners of the contest yesterday:

Snakes on the Brain by Captain Ahab

Here Come the Snakes by Louden Swain

Both of those songs were snakes-related which is good (I was worried Hollywood.mp3 was going to make the cut). They’re both now going to appear on the soundtrack. Congrats.

All previous Fan Songs.

I like the Loudon Swain one alright but i must admit im not a big fan of the winner. Where’s DC Lugi??????

Comment by MaccyD — June 23, 2006 @ 1:07 pm

I don’t think DC Lugi submitted any songs to the contest. I’m not sure why.

Damn, I guess I have to call off the hit I put out on J.C. now that Hollywood.mp3 is forever banished back to the dark it came from. My assassin was really stoked to try out his snake crate on J.C.’s next flight.

The Ahab Song is called “Snakes on the Brain”

Comment by Mephisto — June 23, 2006 @ 2:19 pm

the ahab song is called the biggest piece of shit ever. that midi saxophone?!?!?!

underground LA band. very insteresting. My guess…underground LA band with ties to either new line or tag world. that song is a fucking joke.

Comment by Jeff Timbern — June 23, 2006 @ 4:39 pm

While these may not have been the songs I would have chosen, they ARE about Snakes on a Plane. People, for reasons that I can’t fully understand, have different tastes in music. Just because New Line liked these songs better than others doesn’t mean that the fix is in.

Which song did you want to win?

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — June 23, 2006 @ 5:08 pm

There is no fix, it is just that the Former Fat Boys didn’t win, too bad for you, Your dreams of mega-stardom have been quashed by the evil corporation. Boo-hoo!!!

Face the truth of defeat.

You LOST!!!!

Comment by Mephisto — June 23, 2006 @ 5:23 pm

In an earlier post Jeff Timberm defends his musical expertise by claiming that he works in artist and repertoire. Even with all his knowledge and possible ties to the industry he couldn’t even get the former fatties to come in 2nd place. All the lengthy “I know more than you” posts that he made were wrong. I wished the FFB’s luck and told them I liked their song when I first heard it, but I liked all the songs in the contest. This contest was about having fun with the whole Internet phenomenon, and just getting one fan song in the movie was such a great thing. That’s all anyone cared about. Except for the Former Fat Boys, they saw the contest as their big break and were complete jerks to every other artist in the contest and they still won’t give it up. I have to give them credit, they did have a lot of enthusiasm and they still do. They are keeping the dream alive with the belief that the contest was fixed. Or maybe their song was just too good for the contest? I admire that amount self pride, unfortunetly the world is only big enough for one Eminem.

Jeff Timbern: “that song is a fucking joke.”

Yeah, it is. Maybe it’s a little over your head?

‘Cause that’s okay. It wasn’t meant to be obvious.

Comment by Dude — June 23, 2006 @ 6:50 pm

Commercial pop dreck…that 2nd song reeks….sounds like everything else on the stupid radio, and you know someone’s going to have this bright idea to do a video involving snakes…

“just another pop song” you got that right…god this SUCKS!!!!!

The first one is quirky enough to kinda work.

My vote personally was for “Serious problem” - or any song that managed to work in “mother f**king snakes on the mother f**king planes”

Comment by hehateme — June 24, 2006 @ 10:24 am

So wait…just so I understand…the guy that said this:

“the ahab song is called the biggest piece of shit ever. that midi saxophone?!?!?!

underground LA band. very insteresting. My guess…underground LA band with ties to either new line or tag world. that song is a fucking joke. ”

Is a member of one of the losing bands??!

If it is, a wee bit sour grapes, yes?

Comment by hehateme — June 24, 2006 @ 10:30 am

In a strange series of coincidences my song was personally handed to David Ellis from a guy working at New Line and yet I still lost…I see that as “losing” more than everyone else. So actually I lost twice, as my song only got about 380 votes on tagworld. However, I am not being a jerk to the winners. I may not like their songs either but I have the decency to acknowledge my biased opinion. Way to go Ahab!

Comment by Matt Barr — June 24, 2006 @ 11:17 am

Uhh, Jeff Timbern hit the nail on the head. I can’t take that winning song seriously with that midi saxaphone completely killing any vibe the song had going. Sounds like they took that sh!t from an old Nintendo game or something, lol.

If they put this on the soundtrack, lets hope someone with some sense tells them to remove that midi. This is Snakes on a Plane, not Super Mario Bros.

Like any creative work it’s all a matter of subjective taste. It’s too easy to be critical. People just gotta do their thing and move on. The world is too big to look at through one telescope.
Gotta go, here comes the pill cart.

Speaking of creative work, congrats on having the amazing “someone tell sam jackson he’s my bro” featured on youtube’s main page. You got like a gajillion comments in only a couple of hours.

I figure if enough people see it, someone, somewhere, will actually be able to tell Sam Jackson that he’s your bro.

snakes on a snake is Jeff Timbern!!!!

Comment by Mephisto — June 25, 2006 @ 7:13 am

Yeah, pretty interesting comments from folks who aren’t in on the SOAP thing. I guess out of context it could be percieved as pretty creepy.

Comment by DCLugi — June 25, 2006 @ 1:40 pm

I’m sorry, I don’t like the Captain Ahab song. It’s pretty much terrible. Louden Swain so deserved the first place honors.

Comment by Steve the Pirate — June 27, 2006 @ 6:00 am

I kinda liked Asp’s (Matt) song best, myself. Catchy tune–my daughter and I sing it all the time. “Snaaaakes on a plaaaaaane!” What’s not to like!

Comment by Armitage112 — June 27, 2006 @ 11:35 am

ummm…i haven’t made a comment on this blog in weeks and haven’t been a dick to anyone.

personally, had I picked it I wouldn’t have picked the Snakes on a Brain song, cuz its pretty awful powerman 5000 / marilyn manson-esque crap.

i think the louden swain song is pretty kick ass. i would have definitely picked the future sex robots song or nispy (and of course my own) over Snakes on a Brain as well. I doubt they had Tag World ties, Tag World / New Line isn’t that stupid, I don’t think.

I just don’t think they wanted overt SoaP references.

That said, I know Jeff from MySpace and he’s been a little over zealous on these boards ever since a show in DeKalb, IL, but he’s not affiliated with us at all.

Congratualtions to the winners and seriously, if I pissed anyone off, my apologies.

[...] There were some problems with Tagworld’s first contest, and it took an awfully long time to get results, but hopefully they’ve fine tuned their testing process and everything will run a little bit more smoothly this time.  Time will tell. In other, unrelated tagworld news, a reader pointed me to this craigslist ad looking for girls interested in appearing in Tagworld winner Captain Ahab’s music video. Technically, they’re looking for “BOOTY GIRLS” which isn’t really my thing, but I guess you take what you can get. [...]

Pingback by Snakes on a Blog » Snakes on a Tagworld Contest… err… Again — July 5, 2006 @ 11:37 pm

[...] Now, I can’t figure out exactly where this track listing came from (although it apparently originated from the company putting out the CD: Decaydance Records), but it’s not listed on Amazon and it’s notably missing the two winners of the Tagworld Contest, so I’m curious if the list is accurate. It does otherwise seem to jibe with what we’ve heard previously about the album. Did the Tagworld Contest winners get pushed off? [...]

Pingback by Snakes on a Blog » Snakes on a Soundtrack II — July 12, 2006 @ 4:06 pm

[...] About the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack album: I commented on the fact that the Tagworld winners didn’t appear on the track listing. New Line has pointed out that the CD has “ECD” (read: computer) content and the winners will appear in that section. I think that means these tracks will only play on your computer (not on a standalone CD player). A second email from an independent source at New Line said the songs appear as “special hidden tracks.” The first email also reminded me that the “song” (I assume they meants songs) would appear in the film as well. [...]

[...] Captain Ahab was one of the winners of the Tagworld contest and their song Snakes on the Brain will appear on the soundtrack for Snakes on a Plane (and maybe in the film?). Over the last few weeks they’ve sent me a bunch of stuff about a music video they were working on. First there was a story about the video shoot in the Los Angeles Alternative. Then there were pictures from their video shoot: [...]
