Today I present a Snakes on a Blog first, an authentic interview with a member of the cast of Snakes on a Plane. Agam Darshi plays the unforgettably named iPod Girl and she was kind enough to answer a few questions. The most important thing that you’ll learn from this interview is that iPod Girl doesn’t carry an iPod at all, but some sort of Dell MP3 player… shocking!
Here’s a few pictures of Agam to give you an idea of who we’re talking to.
Anyway, here’s the full email interview, make sure to read the rest after the break:
SnakesonaBlog (SoaB): First of all, tell us a little bit about yourself.
Adam Darshi (AD): I was born in Birmingham England and raised in Canada. I grew up in Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, San Jose for a bit, and now Vancouver. I studied theatre at the University of Calgary, but never really thought about it as a profession until I moved to Vancouver and got an agent. Since then things have been going fairly well and I’ve been focusing on it more and more ever since.
SoaB: From your resume, Snakes on a Plane appears to be your first major/feature film. How did you get involved with it?
AD: SOAP is a big budget film and I basically auditioned for the part like everyone else!
SoaB: How do you feel having a film as unique as Snakes on a Plane as your first major credit?
AD: Well it’s nice to have it on my resume, but to be honest, it’s not something I’m overtly proud of. I’ve worked on a bunch of other great roles and great shows. Like Supernatural, Tru-Calling, Final Destination 3, L-Word, Dead Zone etc… It’s great working on big budget films like this one, but sometimes it’s the smaller films that feel so much more important and interesting, because there is more heart involved.
SoaB: What effect do you think being in Snakes on a Plane will have on your career?
AD: I admit that having the credit definitely generates buzz and catches the attention. But then people ask, who do you play? and I reply “iPod Girl.” It does catch attention, but I don’t feel like it will generate more work for me in the long run. Unless iPod sees it and decides to promote me!
SoaB: We know that your character’s name/title is “iPod Girl”, but we know very little else about her. Can you tell us anything about your character?
AD: Yes, I listen to an iPod… and a snake slides up next to me about to strike… But then… dum dum dum!!! — that’s when you have to tune in to see what happens!
SoaB: Which version iPod does she carry? What color was it? How many gigabytes of storage did it have? What songs were actually loaded onto it?
AD: Here’s the real shocker of it all: I was actually given a Dell mp3 player! Not an iPod. There goes my contract…
SoaB: In your opinion, what is the importance of your character to the film?
AD: I think the importance of iPod Girl to the film is to make the audience sympathetic. She’s oblivious to what is going on. She’s just a sweet girl listening to her music, not hurting anyone… then suddenly a snake pounces.
SoaB: Are you aware of how anticipated the movie has become? Have you heard the fan-made songs, read the blogs, seen the fan-made videos? Do you own a fan-made shirt?
AD: I’m starting to realize the hype and have actually been approached by a t-shirt designer to create an “iPod girl” t-shirt. I’m pretty stoked! When I have one I’ll send you a pic.
SoaB: Were you attacked by snakes in any of your scenes? If so, was it a real snake or computer generated? Was it hard acting with a snake? Do you have any funny snake stories? Did you have a favorite/least favorite particular snake?
AD: I was attacked by a snake in a couple of scenes. One of them is CGI, and the second was real! It slithered on to me 3 times in the takes. My heart was racing and I tried really hard to remain calm. It was probably about 5 feet tall, and the width of my own arm. It was bright yellow…
SoaB: You act, produce, write, take photographs… what would you like to be doing in ten years? What’s your favorite pursuit?
AD: I want to be acting in films and writing my own films. I want to be working side by side with Samuel L Jackson, where we have equal amounts of dialogue.
SoaB: Is there anything else that you think might be interesting to people eagerly anticipating the film’s release in August?
AD: Check out Dead Zone July 9th on USA Network. I play a girl who’s brother has been killed in a hate crime. And Double Crossed on Lifetime will be airing in July. I play alongside Yancy Butler. And all the Canadians or anyone with satellite, check out 49th and Main the last two weeks of July every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:00 where I play Rajanpreet Johal, the headstrong, rebellious girl always at odds with her mother.
Well, there you have it. Thanks a lot Agam, this was great.
I’m glad to know she’d like to be working with Samuel L. Jackson in ten years… I should have asked if he was cool behind the scenes. Oh well. Thanks to everyone who suggested questions, is there anything I should ask next time? If you have further questions for iPod Girl, you can try asking them in the comments. I can’t promise she’ll answer, but at least you’ve got a shot.

A Dell! Yeah all right! I got one of those a few years ago and was constantly questioned as to why i didn’t just get an iPod. Hah! i have been verified by SoaP. Thanks, iPod girl!
