Snakes on an Official Theatrical Trailer Before X-Men 3
May 25th, 2006 at 4:11 pm

I’ve heard rumbings of this for a few weeks now, but this seems concrete:

I work at a movie theater and we have the trailer on one of our X-Men 3 prints. I saw it last night (Wednesday). It’s alright - mostly text with a few clips of the movie in the middle. Total runtime is 56 sec. I should note that this will not appear on EVERY X-Men 3 print (from what i can tell). For example, our theater got 4 prints of X-Men 3 and the SoaP trailer only appears on one of them.

So, if anybody is desperate to see the trailer, call your local theater and find out which X3 screens the trailer will be running on. Please let me know when it shows up online, I’ll post the link.

Well, I’m sure that if I don’t see it before X-Men 3, It’ll be on the internet soon enough.

The wait is almost over…the first official trailer…I might just go to about 10 screenings tomorrow, surely one of them will have it.

Just got back from the X3 premiere, and I saw the trailer. It’s something like this.

*black background*
“This summer, you will see many blockbuster hits.
There will be unbreakable codes,
animated adventures,
impossible missions,
incredible superheroes,
and countless thrills.
But there’s only one place you’ll see
SNAKES ON A PLANE.”

Then there’s a *short* clip of Samuel L. Jackson screaming - sound was ambient, though - and then a snake pops up from the bottom of the screen and attacks towards the camera. The screen then comes in with the movie’s title and release date. That’s about it. Pretty short. More of a teaser than a trailer.

It goes “there’s only one place you’ll see…. (hissing sounds) SNAKES… (crowd in theater goes absolutely nuts, starting with me)… ON A PLANE!” rest of time is spent shouting and exclaiming in exuberance “SNAKES ON A PLAAAAAAAAAAANE!!!!!!”

My friend told me he went to X3 last night and saw the teaser. The ENTIRE crowd was cheering and applauding the entire time.

This movie is gonna be huge.

I believe the SoaP teaser plays before BOTH of our prints of X3. At the midnight screening last night, reaction was very positive.

Comment by dranscht — May 26, 2006 @ 11:55 am

Yep, it’s just a teaser. A tasty little snack treat to hold you over as we count down the days to 18Aug. And it’s only in theatres (honest, that’s where it plays best). But we are about to push the button to launch some new content on the official site…

Comment by aaron — May 26, 2006 @ 12:38 pm

it had to be the best teaser trailer ever…as soon as the audience heard the hissing and saw “snakes” we all cheered. ive never heard anything like that in a movie theatre. it was almost as if i was at a football game

Comment by sam — May 26, 2006 @ 1:04 pm

NO! My friends and I went to the midnight showing of X3 last night and in between every preview we were yelling for snakes on a plane but the trailor never came. It looks like I’ll have to go see it again tonight.

Comment by Alex L — May 26, 2006 @ 2:29 pm

I went to the midnight showing of X3 at the $5 ticket theatre… there were no posters and no trailers/teasers :( I was SO SAD. I guess the new “rave theatre” probably has all the good stuff. Sigh.

They played it with Xmen 3….SOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME

IT WAS AWESOME! And a bunch of people in the audience groanded and laughed. Eithe rpeople think it’s an overhyped internet meme or are in on the joke.

I WAS CHEERING!!!

When we saw the X-3 trailer last night, the crowd was pretty hyped up for the movie. Lots of yelling and clapping for no real reason, ultrageeks getting their social interaction for the year (I keed :-P), people were yelling and screaming and clapping for any little reason at all. It was pretty obnoxious, especially the screaming for Superman and Pirates of the Carribean 2 trailers, but I couldn’t really fault them for being so excited.

Then, after Superman and PotC2…

“This summer, you will see many blockbuster hits.
There will be unbreakable codes,
animated adventures…”

I thought to myself, “What the hell is this?”

“… impossible missions,
incredible superheroes,
and countless thrills.”

My friend sitting next to me suddenly bolted upright in his seat and whispered, “Snakes…”

Then,

“But there’s only one place you’ll see…”

– OH MY GOD –

“SNAKES ON A PLANE.”

Utter pandemonium. The crowd went wild. It was awesome.

I can’t help but laugh whenever I think about it: Imagine if the Hollywood morons had gotten their way and changed the title to “Pacific Air Flight 121″. The theater would have been silent, or filled with derisive laughter. I shudder to think of a world without Snakes on a Plane.

Comment by Rayven — May 26, 2006 @ 10:22 pm

Apparently the trailer is not going to be officially posted online. I’ll see if I can find out more.

I just went to the 8:00 showing. There was very little cheering. Mostly just laughter. I heard one woman say something like “Snakes on a Plane? Is that a real movie?” I clapped the people near me just gave me a weird look. I guess I’m just a weird guy.

“Apparently the trailer is not going to be officially posted online. I’ll see if I can find out more.”

We gotta get a bootleg or something. This is important.

We JUST got back from the theater to see “X-Men 3″, and I took notes after I got done cheering like an idiot when I saw the “SoaP” trailer. The wording in the one I saw goes more like this:

“This summer you will see blockbuster movies…

they will have…

huge stars…

swashbuckling pirates…

elaborate codes…

incredible superheroes…

But there’s one thing…

none of them will have…

SNAKES…ON A PLANE

(cut to images from the trailers we’ve already seen)

August 18–Summer Really Begins”

Now I just have to sneak my digital camera into the theater and film it!

Comment by armitage112 — May 27, 2006 @ 5:07 pm

New Line will release the teaser to internet next week.
Thanks for the great response. David

Comment by DAVID R. ELLIS — May 27, 2006 @ 5:10 pm

Badass director posting at a fansite, you won’t see Spike Lee doing that goddamn

Comment by Woah Woah — May 27, 2006 @ 5:43 pm

Good thinking Mr. Ellis. I’ll be there. ROFL Oh yeah. Loved the trailer.

Every time they talk about Xmen now at work. I mention the trailer and ONLY the trailer.

I’m weird like that.

ROFL

Anyone else experience this? (probably everyone)–When I saw the trailer, me and about 4 or 5 other “SnakeonaPlaniacs” started cheering and whooping. Then, in the silence afterwards, the rest of the audience was buzzing like “WTF??? ‘Snakes on a Plane’”??????? > So sad, the uninformed masses.

Comment by Armitage112 — May 28, 2006 @ 1:03 pm

This film is going to gross a MINIMUM of ten trillion dollars!

Comment by Snakes in Europe — May 28, 2006 @ 1:48 pm

Never head of the movie in my life.
Never would think about watching the movie in my life.
Still really don’t know what it’s supposed to be about.

But the trailer……damn that was brilliant. Especially when played in a theater full of half drunk college kids.

Now i’m a convert.

Comment by jackdanielunc — May 28, 2006 @ 2:34 pm

I can’t wait to see this trailer.

Comment by Virtual Satyr — May 28, 2006 @ 8:03 pm

RE: “Now I’m a convert”–jackdanielunc

SEE?? That one suggestion WAS correct! We SHOULD be “The Church of Samuel L. Jackson of Latter Day Snakes” if we get CONVERTS!!

Comment by Armitage112 — May 29, 2006 @ 11:46 am

““The Church of Samuel L. Jackson of Latter Day Snakes” - that is flippin fantastic!!!!

“now can I get an amen….mother f**kers?!

Saw it before X3 this weekend. Entire theatre broke out in pandemonium. As soon as the trailer started I looked at my girlfriend and said, “What the hell is this?” No sooner did I turn back to the screen when someone from the back of the theatre said “OH MY GOD SNAKES ON A PLANE!!!” and the theatre started to laugh - when the title “SNAKES ON A PLANE” showed up on the screen the ENTIRE theatre exploded with an uproarious applause - loudest I have ever heard in a movie (EVEN louder then the end of ROTK). It continued on THROUGH the next couple of trailers and people in the back started to chant snakes on a plane. There was an old couple next to me who was mortified.

dude.. that link dosnt work.

The SoaP trailer was my favorite part of X3.

EVERYONE was shouting with jubilation when as soon as snakes hit the screen.

Comment by minxatron — June 1, 2006 @ 4:04 pm

I knew that the teaser was going to be before X3, but it caught me off guard until the screen went black, and you hear the snake rattle. chills ran up my spine.

there was no huge applause in my theater because I had gone to see the movie in the afternoon; a time when most of the cinema patrons are old people, and X3 is not the genre of choice for said audience.

there was the few expected ‘wtf’s and several people giggled at the title. I stood up, in the front row, and clapped.
