Snakes on a Contest Winner!
May 17th, 2006 at 12:17 am

After nearly 1,400 votes, we have our winner. It was a close contest, but in the end we will be calling an online fan of Snakes on a Plane a:

Snakesonaplaniac

I have to admit, I voted for SoaP Scum, which I still think was a great option, but the masses have spoken. As promised, the winner of this contest will receive a copy of the teaser poster, a shirt of the winner’s choice from either ShelfLife’s CafePress store or Damnation’s store, and a limited edition bracelet from Goods For Giving with Snakesonaplaniac imprinted. The winner of this contest is:

IQPierce
IQpierce

Congratulations IQpierce. You are, however, expected to send in a picture of yourself wearing your chosen shirt.

In commemoration of this occasion, ShelfLife was kind enough to produce the snazzy graphic above which is now available on a wide variety of shirts for everyone, not just IQpierce. In addition, there were three other people who submitted Snakesonaplaniacs after IQpierce, they will be receiving the same prize package except without the t-shirt (sorry): Christopher, Scott and reddragon. I will be in touch with all the winners in the next 24 hours to make arrangements for your prizes. Feel free to taunt everyone else in the comments. Also, for those of you interested, here’s a complete list of all submissions.

I really enjoyed this contest, so here’s what the next one is going to be: prizes will be awarded to individuals wearing snakes on a plane apparel in funny/unusual locations/situations. So, if you don’t already have a shirt, make sure to pick one up in preperation.

Bah, on with the next contest!

Did you read the last paragraph? Do you have a shirt/hat/whatever? Time to start preparing.

Oh, and it wasn’t in the original post (I’ve since added it), but here’s a list of all the submissions. I really liked The Church of Samuel L. Jackson of Latter-Day Snakes, but it was a little bit too long and didn’t have a singular form.

>>but here’s a list of all the submissions.

I admit I don’t know what it means, but I do so like “Flitherlers”…

Comment by ShelfLife — May 17, 2006 @ 1:14 am

well thank god motherf*ckers didnt prevail!

Comment by Snakes in Europe — May 17, 2006 @ 8:04 am

I would have liked to see a different graphic on the shirt. I would have liked it to be plural - snakesonaplaniacs- with the final “s” a subtle snake with a long tail, kind of like the Yankees shirts that are written in script with that long “s” at the end - ‘ya know?

Thank you for voting for Soap Scum. :-)

*Dances*

Comment by IQpierce — May 17, 2006 @ 9:37 am

I agree wtih Shelflife that it seems to make more sense to put the singular on the shirt/other stuff… you’re saying that you are one by wearing it.

For those of you who know my past career, you’ll remember something I worked on in New York with a vulgar name that similiarly had the singular on the t-shirt.

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — May 17, 2006 @ 10:15 am

Well, OK, then the first “s” could serve as the snake.

Comment by Mother — May 17, 2006 @ 10:34 am

IQPierce was kind enough to provide a picture so you can all know who beat you. I’ve included in the original post.

Whoo! Can’t wait for my psoter

Comment by John Mazz — May 17, 2006 @ 11:16 am

I still think SOAP Necks would have won if it had been selected.

Comment by BojacRedleif — May 17, 2006 @ 12:05 pm

Someone needs to make a t-shirt that says “The Church of Samuel L. Jackson of Latter-Day Snakes”

Comment by Spencer — May 17, 2006 @ 12:27 pm

Haha as a (the?) submitter of SoaP Scum, I feel as if SoaP Scum would have rode to an easy win if Motherfuckers had not been an option. Motherfuckers was stealing all my “edgy” votes. Or maybe I stole MF’s votes. Either way, I know how Al Gore felt after Nader ran for president.

Oh well, that’s democracy. On to the next contest.

Comment by Pepeeg — May 17, 2006 @ 2:18 pm

By the way, nice picture of IQpierce on the toilet. haha

Comment by Pepeeg — May 17, 2006 @ 2:19 pm

I was the other submitter of SoaP Scum. I wasn’t as obvious as you were, though. :-)

Comment by Mother — May 17, 2006 @ 3:14 pm

I totally voted for “SoaP Scum”, but I am exceedingly glad that “Snakesonaplaniacs” won over “M-Fers”–and I’m sure the folks who make the t-shirts are happy, too, because c’mon folks, who out there would REALLY wear an “M-Fer” shirt in real life?? Heck, I don’t even SAY it! ;-) Congrats to the winners! And now to buy a shirt so I can get into the next contest.

BTW–if someone can take “The Church of Samuel L. Jackson of Latter-Day Snakes” and make it look like the REAL church’s logo, I’d wear THAT in a minute! ;-)

Comment by Armitage112 — May 17, 2006 @ 3:14 pm

Brian, you should make a new tab for contests in the right-hand nav bar

Comment by Pepeeg — May 17, 2006 @ 4:05 pm

>>who out there would REALLY wear an “M-Fer” shirt in real life?

A surprising number of people, actually… ;)

Comment by ShelfLife — May 17, 2006 @ 4:28 pm

Pepeeg, if you scroll down to the categories, there actually is a Contest Category which, if clicked on, will show you all the posts having to do with contests.

Those categories are actually pretty handy, I’d recommend their use.

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — May 17, 2006 @ 5:13 pm

Yes those categories are great, I have been using them for a while… I just thought maybe others couldn’t locate them

Comment by Pepeeg — May 17, 2006 @ 8:48 pm

Mother

I figured you were — your subtle “switch” to SoaP Scum was a little too convenient.

Comment by Pepeeg — May 17, 2006 @ 9:08 pm

WTF???

I submitted “Snakaplaniacs”. You even put in out your ‘all submissions’ list. Why the hell am I not included in the list of winners? This is bullshit, dude. I think making a distinction between “Snakesonaplaneiacs” and “Snakaplaniacs” is stupid.

My logo is way better than that piece of snake shit that you’ve put on tshirts anyways.

Comment by Phillip — May 18, 2006 @ 4:51 am

OMFG such vile bitterness!!! Do you mind?!?! His MOM reads these comments, watch the motherf*cking cursing!!!!!

Comment by Snakes in Europe — May 18, 2006 @ 6:18 am

Phillip, snaka whut? Kinda vampire crazy-fanglike. It reminds me of snacks more than snakes. Jus’ sayin’. Man, I could use a twinkie.

Comment by Robin Lynne — May 18, 2006 @ 10:57 am

Phillip, a few things. First of all, I didn’t put anything on any shirt, ShelfLife did… so critiques about design can be direct towards her (although I’d recommend a less aggressive tone).

Second, I’m sorry about not selecting your name, there were a lot of good submissions, but this was something of a contest and lines had to be drawn. I accepted “Snakesonaplaniac” and “Snakes On A Planiac” as the same name, but anything else was its own submission. “Snakaplaniac” is, in my mind, a dramatically different submission from “Snakesonaplaniac” in literal letters used as well as in pronounciation and feel.

I’m sorry you were disappointed with the outcome of this contest… perhaps you’ll enjoy the next one more.

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — May 18, 2006 @ 11:12 am

ATTN: RobinLynne–You’re showing your young age, aren’t you? ;-) Apparently, you are too young to remember the righteous wrestling craze of the 1980’s that WAS “HULKAMANIA” (as in, Hulk Hogan of the group-formrerly-known-as-the WWF).

>> ShelfLife did… so critiques about design can be direct towards her

Thank you ever so much. ;)

Comment by ShelfLife — May 18, 2006 @ 12:05 pm

Great looking shirt, BTW, but I only have 2 comments/suggestions/whiny complaints/whatever:

1. Can the logo be bigger?

2. Can I get a BLACK t-shirt? It would cool on black, IMHO.

Comment by Armitage112 — May 18, 2006 @ 4:27 pm

my EYES, my EYES!!!!!

Comment by Mother — May 18, 2006 @ 4:45 pm

Not whiny at all. ;)

The logo can be larger (though I prefer it smaller) and it can be on black…

However, the CafePress for printing black t-shirts is still in “beta” and I’m concerned that the gradients (the snake’s color, and the blue) MAY not print well on black.

I’ll tweak the image for black (which requires the original colors to be lighter/brighter in order to print well) and make it larger later this evening and see where I can get with it… if I’m happy with it, I’ll put a link up here.

Comment by ShelfLife — May 18, 2006 @ 4:56 pm

Armitage, it’s true! I was born in the 80s, so I don’t remember s’much about them… I rode on Andre the Giant’s shoulders once, though. My granpa and he were like THIS. Yeah!

Comment by Robin Lynne — May 18, 2006 @ 5:32 pm

waah - can’t we do one that just has the word snakesonaplaniac without the graphic? waaah

Comment by Mother — May 18, 2006 @ 6:14 pm

Okay, larger and on a black:

>>waah - can’t we do one that just has the word snakesonaplaniac without the graphic? waaah

Well, that was such a lovely whine, I’m willing to give it a shot. ;) Do you want just plain text (black and white) or more of a decorative text ?

I am warning you, though… it’s one long-ass word and tends to look a bit odd…

Comment by ShelfLife — May 19, 2006 @ 12:29 am

Someone needs to do a photoshop of Jake THE SNAKE Roberts on a plane.

I would if I had time but I’m a TV star so I don;t….

Comment by Snakes in Europe — May 19, 2006 @ 3:15 am

Hooray! I like subtle. Black and white might be too much for me. Something script and subtle would be nice, but you’re the expert. I defer to your judgement. Yippee.

Comment by Mother — May 19, 2006 @ 7:58 am

*sob* It’s so–beautiful!! *sob* I’m deeply moved–I don’t know what to say except, “Where’s my wallet?” ;-)

Seriously, I dunno about anyone else, but I think it looks better on ALL the shirt in a larger logo, and the BLACK one is completely HOT! Thanks ShelfLife!

Comment by Armitage112 — May 19, 2006 @ 2:14 pm

I thought the black one came out nicely, too.

Comment by Mother — May 19, 2006 @ 3:52 pm

I want a shirt that says “The Church of Samuel L. Jackson of Latter-Day Snakes”. Make it happen.
