Snakes on a Kindergarten Class

A frequent contact, who also wrote the song Snakes on a Plane under the band name Asp (he’s in the Tagworld Contest if you want to vote for him), sent me this email:

I thought you might like this photo of my class. I have the story of SOAP edited to a great children’s story and my students want to hear it everyday. They are also avid fans of my song. In this photo they are singing it whilst holding up their SOAP coloring pages. Feel free to post the photo if you want.

And here’s the GREAT photo:

See? That’s the kind of example as to why we can’t have “Motherfuckers” as the name for our fans.

Comment by Boots — May 13, 2006 @ 3:31 pm

Ha, I’m with you. I voted for another name.

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — May 13, 2006 @ 3:44 pm

aww, look at those little motherf*@%ers.

Comment by hotdog — May 13, 2006 @ 7:44 pm

I’m taking it nationally. Driving all the way north on I-55 tomorrow with a “Snakes on a Plane” sign taped to my back bumper.

OMFG thats hilarious….I wonder of the fanatical left wing Child Activist groups will take offense to the “dangerous reptillian imagery”

Comment by Snakes in Europe — May 14, 2006 @ 4:49 am

I agree about not ending up calling the fans for motherfuckers. It should be Passengers, in my opinion.

Snakes in Europe

Come on you can troll better than that. WTF

Comment by Pepeeg — May 14, 2006 @ 3:46 pm

OMG–corrupting our youth at such a tender age with such violent and savage imagery, and making them afraid of such gentle and misunderstood creatures!!

Nice work. ;-)

They nhave Embraced the Age of Irony! They teach it in the schools now, do they? I’m particularly impressed with the contraposition of the movie poster and the DaVinci (or is it Durer?) print in the upper left hand corner. See Ebert, irony and Art can co-exist.

Did ya get that childs story version?

Oh, and I’m flying on Thursday, guess what I’m going to bring on the plane?

Comment by Daniel — May 14, 2006 @ 9:34 pm

I like the little guy in front, not holding a sign. Go Hawks!

Comment by swallowwhole — May 15, 2006 @ 2:18 pm

This is the teacher of that kindergarten class, and I just wanted to clarify that it is DaVinci next to the poster. I will have the “children’s version” of SOAP submitted soon, as well as a coloring page, so sit tight. My students, as well as myself, would love any votes you could all throw my way. I will also try and get some other hilarious kindergarten SOAP pictures posted. Teaching kindergarten is more fun than anyone gives it credit for!!! SOAP has taught my students a great deal about the world!

Where the HELL were YOU when MY kids were in kindergarten????? My kid’s teachers were busy trying to stop me from bringing Christmas Cookies into class. Sheesh.

Comment by Mother — May 16, 2006 @ 11:05 am

Hey - I’m a huge SoaP fan. But I’m also the parent of a kindergartener. And I know what my kid (and her peers) are capable of handling, and I got to tell you: No WAY should a teacher be exposing a class to the concept of snakes on planes. How can you edit down a story involving a plane full of snakes? At the end of the day, it’s a story about snakes on a plane, right? Are you TRYING to give these little ones a life-long phobia? Huh? HUH? Seriously - if I found out my kindergarten teacher was teaching my kids about snakes on planes, I’d be complaining to our principal immediately. So, please, dear SoaP fan collegues who happen to be teachers, do not mix snakes on planes and kindergarteners (or first, second, or third graders, for that matter. I suppose fourth graders could handle it).

Comment by Concerned SoaP Mom! — May 17, 2006 @ 11:08 am

Oh come on, “Concerned SoaP Mom.” Go reread the original versions of fairy tales. They were gruesome. Kids were fine. While I agree it’s a little weird to bring SoaP into the classroom, I have no idea what he was doing with it in the classroom, so I can’t judge. I strongly doubt that anything he is doing is going to give kids a “life-long phobia.” You helicopter parents make me ill.

Comment by Teacher — May 18, 2006 @ 3:16 pm

And yet, if you look on the web site here… there’s already a “Snakes on a Plane” book out there for kids! Why just choose this guy? There’s that other guy too!

Comment by chaoticpix93 — May 18, 2006 @ 6:57 pm

This is the parent who was my nightmare. Do any of those kids look traumatized to you? I would have LOVED to have had a kindergarten teacher for my kids who had sense of humor and fun.
Let the teacher judge his kids for himself. You’re free to keep yours in any bubble you choose.

Comment by Mother — May 18, 2006 @ 7:24 pm

(whrrrrr, whrrrrr) (that’s the sound of my blades as I hover here typing my reply)

Yeah - I hear you re: the fairy tales. I actually am not one of “those” parents (at least I hope not) but I really do think that that teacher should not have introduced SoaP to those kids. Just my 2 cents.

Anyway, gotta go get those motherf*&!#ing snakes off my helicopter before the kids roll home in their bubbles. Ciao.

Comment by Concerned SoaP Mom — May 19, 2006 @ 11:53 am

I am the teacher of the class in question, and I thought I’d lend some input. The children are not scared of the story, or snakes at all! They think of it all very in a very “matter of fact” manner. They know snakes only bite when hungry or scared and it’s not their fault they’re on the plane. The children really love coming up with ideas on how to deal with a situation like that. Today a girl was crying because she thought that Q’s must be sad always having to be next to a U, but they never get upset about SOAP. It is one of their favorite stories to listen to as they prepare for nap time…go figure?

Comment by Matt Barr — May 19, 2006 @ 8:14 pm

These are children whom, most of, have seen Harry Potter and Star Wars, so they can handle quite a bit. They studied world history, math, reading, and tons of other academic stuff all year, so SOAP is a good summer gift for them. Their teacher also has a song in the competition, so it’s all very exciting for them…a big group effort! I will get the kindergarten story sent to snakesonablog soon.

Comment by Matt Barr — May 19, 2006 @ 8:22 pm

[...] A few days ago our friend Matt sent in a picture of his Kindergarten class holding up drawings they had made of the teaser poster, and, despite some controversy in the comments, we all found it cute. So cute, in fact, that Matt sent in a second picture of his class, as well as the coloring book pattern he made for his kids (it’s big so you can print it out and use it for your kids, too): [...]

OMFG concerned SOAP parent lighten the hell up.
I wish i had a kid so Matt Barr would be his/her teacher!!!

Typical left wing liberal PC bullshit run wild…..omfg.

Comment by Snakes in Europe — May 20, 2006 @ 6:44 am

Right-wing fanatics play the child-endangerment card just as often as left-wing fanatics. A concerned parent has absolutely nothing to do with “liberal PC bullshit” or a left-wing conspiracy.

On the contrary, Mom is clearly a part of the snake conspiracy. Snakes want these stories hidden from our children, so that snakes will have the element of surprise when they happen to be on a plane.
