Snakes on a Children’s Book

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

Noah, the Boa Constrictor is the title of an out of print children’s book. It follows the trevails of our friend Noah, who is flying to some sort of carnival when the plane suddenly rips in two. Thankfully he uses his boa constrictor skills to hold the plane together for the rest of the non-snakes on board. These pages from the book were posted on Noah Stone’s blog:

Thank god for Snakes on a Plane.

Actually, I actually published one of these images a few months ago here. It’s just a part of the third page. I wonder why whoever put it online didn’t grab the whole page. Oh well.

Snakes on a Lip Sync

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

There’s a weird contest at Fylmz.com where you use still photos of actors and directors and then add your own dialogue/lips into the scenes to make a new movie. This is similar to the bit that Conan O’Brien does from time to time. Anyway, if you make the best Snakes on a Plane scene (including at least one shot of Samuel L. Jackson), you’ll win… 100 points. “Points?” you ask. Yes, points. I have no idea what you could do with them, but there you go:

Anyway, they have an example video with Spielburg attempting to direct Tom Cruise through a scene, check it out.

Snakes on a Director Interview

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

David Ellis has given an interview to Bloody-Disgusting.com, where he talks about Snakes on a Plane. Some pieces of information revealed include the budget ($30 million), the official trailer release date (sometime in May), who greenlit the extra-vulgar extra-gorey reshoots (the president of New Line), and his thoughts on the unofficial/official trailer:

Yes, we had over 500 real, non-venomous snakes as well as some CGI snakes. The trailer, which is currently making the rounds on the Internet, is rather rough. The shot of the woman with the snake coming out of her blouse needs tweaking as do a few others – when we’re finished with post, all of the snakes will be photo-real. Our visual effects teams, Hybrid, led by Erik Henry, and Asylum FX, are hard at work.

Ok, a visit to Cafe Press shows me that there’s a lot of new shirts out there. Sigh, these take a long time for me to put together, but here are your new options:

There’s actually a bunch more designs at Cafe Press but this post has already taken pretty long. I’ll get the rest of them in the next one. But you can check them all out for yourself here.

What do you get when you combine Bollywood with Snakes on a Plane? In the real world, I can only imagine it would be something fantastic. Online, it’s still pretty good:

Snakes on IMDB II

Friday, April 7th, 2006

IMDB has recently listed the tagline of the film as:

Relax. They’re first class fliers.

This sounded like a terrible tagline. But, remembering that IMDB was wrong last time they reported something about the movie, I checked with a couple of my contacts at New Line and they confirmed that this is NOT the tagline they’ll be using. There are so many good options out there, I hope they pick one that’s better than this.

How about “this summer, you will believe snakes can fly.” There are lots here. Give me some better ones.

Snakes on an official Trailer II?

Friday, April 7th, 2006

AICN is reporting that one of their folks has seen the official trailer to be released sometime in May. According to them, this is what it’s like:

* New Line logo

* Setting up the plot –

*People boarding a plane

*Flight attendant says to Sam, “Welcome aboard Agent Flynn”

*FBI taking over first class, young guy saying he’s a witness for the FBI.

*Cuts back to Samuel L. Jackson talking to the young guy in a dark room - “Those people know who you are. If you testify it’ll put him in jail for life”

*Rest of passengers boarding plane – typical group – honeymooners, mom/kids, businessmen, etc.

All of this first half is intercut with the text:

“6 Miles above the ocean…

2 miles from land…

a trap has been set…

and there is no way out”

Countdown clock in baggage compartment. Reaches zero and a box blows open. Cat meows and hisses.

Snakes silently spreading throughout the plane – into purses, under seats, cockpit, etc.

Then the money shots begin:

snakes, snakes, and more snakes – striking at ankles, jumping at pilot, slithering up the aisles chasing passengers…

Sam taking charge and barking orders

Sam on the phone to someone: “You know all those security scenarios we ran? Well I’m smack in the middle of one.”

More snake shots

Explosions, plane door blowing out, cabin losing pressure, beverage carts crashing up the aisle

Sam: “Enough is enough! I’ve had it with these snakes!”

Second half intercut with text:

“This summer…

experience…

the height…

of fear”

Ground Control: “Somebody wanna tell me what’s going on up there?”

Title card:

Snakes on a Plane

I made some efforts to check this out with New Line and as far as I can tell they haven’t yet decided on a trailer. This may be one of the options, or it may not be. Anyway, thought it was worth pointing out.

Snakes on Me on CNN (Delayed) & SkyTV

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Contrary to my announcement last week, there will be no Snakes on a Plane segment on Paula Zahn this Friday. It has been pushed back for some news-related reason. I’ll update when I have more information about when it will be on.

Additionally tomorrow I’m tentatively scheduled to do an interview with SkyTV which broadcasts in the UK (and elsewhere in Europe? I don’t know). There’s been some dancing with the scheduling, so I’m not 100% sure it’s going to happen. We’ll see.

Think they’ll put makeup on me?

Snakes on a Shirt on Ebay

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

Ebay has an interesting Snakes shirt for sale. It’s a design I haven’t seen before, and it looks like it may have been made by the studio since it has something vaguely approximating the logo. Don’t know, you can decide for yourself:

Snakes on Songs IX

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

Have I mentiond that DC Lugi is my god? Well, he is. He’s collaborated with Subatomic Warp on my favorite fan song, and he made the great early audition video. A few nights ago he sent me the song that he’s submitting to the tagworld contest, give it a listen:

Enough is Enough by DC Lugi

I also have one more song and one new audio trailer to post:

I think this is only the second audio trailer I’ve had since the first great one by Subatomic Warp.

Snakes on a Flash Video

Ah, a good flash video. I like it when they’re good. This one is based on Lemon Demon’s song that I posted in January and was animated by the guy who animated Ultimate Showdown. Here it is:

Snakes on Me on CNN / MSNBC

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

First of all a programming note.

According to the networks the Snakes on a Plane piece that I did an interview for (poorly) will air on MSNBC’s Countdown Tuesday night at 8:00pm (04/04/06). I don’t know at what point during the hour. Additionally, today I did an interview for CNN’s Paula Zahn for a piece which should air on Friday night at 8:00pm (04/07/06).

If somebody with magical tv/internet powers could get me clips from these two shows, it would be greatly appreciated.

The CNN interview went better than the MSNBC interview. I went down to their studio and did it in person. I got to sit in a little room by myself with a camera… AND I got an earpiece. It was great. I don’t think anybody really understood why I was there though. Here’s the jist of my day:

Q: Are you going into the Situation Room?
A: Uhm, I don’t think so. Maybe?

Q: Are you here to talk about Moussaui?
A: Uhm, probably not, but I can throw something together if you want.

Q: Do you need makeup?
A: Uhm, I don’t think so.
Response: Yes, you do.

Q: Do you need hairspray?
A: No, I don’t.
Response: Yes, you do.

Q: So, what are you here to talk about?
A: A movie called Snakes on a Plane.

Q: Oh, are you in it?
A: Uh, no.

So, I got both makeup and hairspray. It was really gross. I can’t imagine it actually makes you look better on tv, but whatever. I guess we’ll find out in a few days. I was in the makeup room with Paul Begala, I can pretty much guarantee that if he knew why I was there, he would have scoffed at me.

Anyway, look for the interviews. And, again, please record them for me.

UPDATE: Here’s the video.

Ok, I took too long to post this and the OTHER Snakes on a Blog posted it first (I’ve decided that we race for these things) but here’s what those emergency cards in airplanes would look like if Snakes on a Plane was a regular occurance:
