Snakes on a Tagworld Contest Update
April 21st, 2006 at 1:20 am

Yesterday I badmouthed the Tagworld contest listing lots of problems with their voting website. It looks like they’ve taken the time to fix some of my initial problems. For example, the “random” sort now actually shows you different songs each time, the vote counters seem to work, the pop-ups aren’t nearly as confusing, and you get to see 12 (up from 10) songs per page.

They still don’t allow you to scroll quickly to bands in the depths of the alphabet (bands starting with the letter ‘Z’ are screwed) and there’s no way to show the top vote getters, but I’m glad they fixed a lot of the problems. I’m still dismayed by the sheer number of bands with songs totally unrelated to the movie, but hopefully we can vote them out (and hopefully New Line won’t pick one of those as the winner).

Anyway, reader snakecharmer was nice enough to tally the current leaders:

10. The guesstimates w/Two Snakes on a Plane 63 votes (SOAP)
9. Shanky Drank with Final Snakes 64 (SOAP)
8. Kyle.mcmahon with Gone 73 votes (BS)
7. Wizardz of Rhyme with Planes on a Snakes 82 votes (SOAP)
6. Runaway Pheonix with Snakes on a Plane 90 votes (SOAP)
5. Ben Rusch with Wash your Mouth out 111 votes (BS)
4. Zachery with Serious Problem 117 votes (SOAP)
3. 50412 with Snakes on a Plane 120 votes (SOAP)
2. Futuristic Sex Robots w/Snakes on a Plane at 260 votes (SOAP)
1. Hollywood.mp3 at 277 votes (BS)

Let’s see if we can vote Hollywood.mp3 off this list, their song is an infidel… totally non-snakes related.

And if anyone feels like keeping these tallies up to date in the comments, I’ll post daily updates. Please post your suggestions of bands to vote for in the comments. You can also look through songs posted here for suggestions.

UPDATE

Hey folks new count in and I cleaned the list up a bit and added which songs which were Snake, Plane, or Snake on a plane related (SOAP) and which ones were just American Idol bullshit ( BS) trying to steal our thunder…

10. The guesstimates with Two Snakes on a Plane 63 votes (SOAP)
9. Shanky Drank with Final Snakes 64 (SOAP)
8. Kyle.mcmahon with Gone 73 votes (BS)
7. Wizardz of Rhyme with Planes on a Snakes 82 votes (SOAP)
6. Runaway Pheonix with Snakes on a Plane 90 votes (SOAP)
5. Ben Rusch with Wash your Mouth out 111 votes (BS)
4. Zachery with Serious Problem 117 votes (SOAP)
3. 50412 with Snakes on a Plane 120 votes (SOAP)
2. Futuristic Sex Robots with Snakes on a Plane at 260 votes (SOAP)
1. Hollywood.mp3 at 277 votes (BS)

also I have been monitoring the voting for a few hours now and I noticed a few irregularities that have been bothering me. I aint calling this a 2000 presidential election or anything just susicipous of the constant upstream in Hollywood.mp3 votes. I mean maybe the guy has dedicated fans that are cosntantly upvoting him but still I feel this vote may need an impartial UN observer……There is the possibilty of snakes in the voting machine

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 2:25 am

I think this contest needs to have its own alternative chart seperate from Tagworld. And of course, for the winner to be purely snake-related. Also I cant say I agree with some of the top 25.

I stand by my previous comment that the Fenton Barnes song is awesome in a dumb-yet likeable end-of-credits way! Where is it on the damn list????

Futuristic Sex Robots to win, no BS American Idol rejects please…..

Check out the award winning song “Snakes on an MP3″ — the #1 music video at Zebro’s SoaP music video contest. Vote for it if you like.

1. Hollywood.mp3 at 295 votes (BS)

I think those tag people are at least getting their act together. They seem to take all the features that get suggested here to heart, as they now have a way to skip directly to a specific song. But listen folks we still need to rally people to vote for only SoaP realted songs, go to other message boards get them to vote for any SoaP song just as long as it has something to do with Snakes or planes. We have the power!

Oh man, Yahoo! news has printed my lyrics. My life is complete.

Snakecharmer, when you say there’s a way to skip directly to a song, do you mean the Name Filter, or is there an even more direct way?

Have another listen to The Guesstimates, guys, and keep the voting going strong!

Comment by Evan of The Guesstimates — April 21, 2006 @ 2:03 pm

Evan,

they had a function to type in a name but it looks like they took it away. But its still easier to find stuff from yesterday. At the top you can choose genre ( i just go all ) , list by name (don’t use random it still sux) , and then choose the first letter of the artist. with the fact that they list up to 20 per page now you should see the song your looking for right on the page.

Oh and Evan you might want to convince more people to vote for your song my latest count ( I am still totaling) has it pushed off the top ten and I believe only the top ten will be semi-finalists.

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 2:42 pm

Yeah, I’m also really suspicious of the Ben Rusch one. Even though the hollywood guy is a complete tool, the Ben Rusch 1) has no lyrics, 2) has so many instruments that don’t go together it sounds like complete ass, and 3) it is complete ass.

I could understand if hollywood has some pre-established army of 50 year old housewives voting for him…but seeing as his page doesn’t even have that many hits (relatively speaking) I’m pretty sure he’s been making up addresses and voting for himself.

The diss track is still cooking I’ll pass it along once it’s done.

I am appaled at the amount of votes these crap songs are getting. First of all there are some songs that would actually fit the movie, or that sound good! Some of the songs that have upward of 100 votes (In a 24 hour period? PLEASE!) there has to be some OBVIOUS self voting (many different emails?) Anyway I wanted to say you should check out Asp. The song rocks, no it is not my song, I can’t sing… but hell I should have entered I would probably have a bunch of votes. This contest is a popularity contest, not a contest based on actual good lyrical content. I am really disappointed. What to do?

Again, I suggest Asp. Check them out

PS. Your email address doesnt even have to be real. You can make up bs emails and still get an account.

Captain Ahab’s “Sankes on the Brain” is Fantastic!

Comment by Rob — April 21, 2006 @ 3:39 pm

The Guesstimates’ “Two Snakes on a Plane” is wonderful.

I think I am going to make it my wedding song someday.

Thank you for existing.

P.S. Great job with the lyrics Evan

UPADATE!

Big props to the Futuristic Sex Robot fans you moved them into the number 1 postion! We also moved one more BS song off the list, and Evan brought his song all the way to number 7 congrats! Keep voting people… (my personal favorite is still Jenny’s Midnight Screamatorium with Noodles with Teeth)

10. Shanky Drank with Final Snakes 90 (SOAP)
9. Wizardz of Rhyme with Planes on a Snakes 99 votes (SOAP)
8. Runaway Pheonix with Snakes on a Plane 105 votes (SOAP)
7. The guesstimates w/Two Snakes on a Plane 105 votes (SOAP)
6. Former Fat boys with Snakes on a Plane 111 votes (SOAP)
5. 50412 with Snakes on a Plane 123 votes (SOAP)
4. Ben Rusch with Wash your Mouth out 131 votes (BS)
3. Zachery with Serious Problem 153 votes (SOAP)
2. Hollywood.mp3 at 304 votes (BS)
1. Futuristic Sex Robots w/Snakes on a Plane at 314 votes (SOAP)

As for the Hollywood.mp3 contraversy well I got an opinion on him, but it aint nice. I mean I did a little poking around his website where he professes to be “keeping it real” in music, but this guy enters his song in a movie fan contest?! How is that “keeping it real”? His whole persona is antithetical to the Snakes on a Plane philosphy.

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 4:50 pm

Cool, keep the updates coming, I’ll put a new tally on the front page tonight.

For what it’s worth, Tagworld says they’re going to submit “up to” the top 25 songs to New Line for consideration… New Line, I hope, knows what they’re doing and will not pick a BS song.

I want a Subatomic Warp, DCLugi, or Reverand Jodi Hicks song to make it, but there don’t seem to be any by any of them in the contest. It’s too bad.

Comment by Snakes on a Blog — April 21, 2006 @ 4:56 pm

Thanks, Mike. We’re available for bar mitzvahs also.

Comment by Evan — April 21, 2006 @ 5:55 pm

OK so I am gonna rant about JC Cannegieter the artist behind Hollywood.mp3. I gotta nothing personal against this guy, but his effort in this contest is confusing. His website claims that he doesn’t wanna be a “boy band loser or ganster wannabe” and only wants “dignity and respect” So he searches for it in a contest for Snakes on a Plane? He also claims that he has had several offers for his lyrics, but he refuses to “sell out” to the music industry executives. WTF? So he’ll prostitute his music in our movie, but not for Geffen Records? And I am not a music critic but lets take a look at his lyrics for a sec… in the song Hollywood.Mp3 they range from cliched sexplotation:
“Hickies on the neck From when we had sex
You cant stop me now I like to sleep around”

To sappy love song bullshit:
“She makes me feel alive. like I can touch the sky
I like the way she moves. I like her attitude”

To postively bizzare freaky nonsense:
“She wants a man so I’ll stay
She likes cranberries on a hot day” (WTF?!? I don’t even know what that means?)

he has no real love for the source material and a really hope New Line doesn;t choose his song to win.

On a side note vote for Jenny’s Midnight Screamatorium and their song Noodles with Teeth! Its old timey snake goodness!

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 6:13 pm

I hope the song contest is an honest springboard to a real success…that way they’d be force to aknowledge snakes on a plane as it’s launching pad.

That’s why I want a quaulity song that does not have anything to do with snakes.

#1 You’re a motherfucker.
#2 “hollywood” has nothing to do with a) snakes, or b) the tone of the movie, his fan base is a bunch of 40 year old housewives that liked his pics. Good job on his part.
#3 You’re a motherfucker.

This track is going to be so goddamn good I can’t wait to put it out.

Comment by legit h — April 21, 2006 @ 8:04 pm

No hate,
after all JC is the number1hater.com
the RC man is free to show his hollywood.mp3 love for the JC

(jesus I can’t believe he goes by JC that alone drives me to take a tire iron to him)

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 8:20 pm

by the way legit H your song must include a reference to enjoying cranberries on a hot day! Cause honestly who really doesn’t!

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 8:27 pm

“noodles with teeth” by jenny’s midnight screamatorium is by FAR the best one i’ve heard. just brilliant songwriting.

and no, i didn’t write it.

HOLY CRAP! so I was doing a preliminary vote count for my next update in an hour or so and I decided to listen to some of the other SOAP themed songs that aren’t getting alot of votes. It is a crime that some of these aren’t up in the top half for votes. Captain Ahab’s Snakes on the Brain is actually good if ya like that type of music and if your a into the Rasta music someone made a pretty good song for that. I was considering making a SOAP best of genre list just so people who like music other than rap or comedy can get a vote up onto the list. Call it the SOAP approved list!

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 8:58 pm

hahahahaaahaa noodles with teeth is AWESOME

Comment by kit less — April 21, 2006 @ 9:04 pm

Hahahaha for those that like Emo music Louden Swain actually made a song for you called Here Come the Snakes. And someone submitted a SOAP themed country song i can’t believe I missed these gems first time I voted. too bad those at Tagworld didn’t listen to the submissions before hand and weed out the unrelated material so these songs aren’t buried behind some electronika riff about a girlfriend.

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 9:05 pm

ok this is coming early cause its friday night I gotta better places to be than here so last time for today……

UPDATE!

10. Wizardz of Rhyme w/Planes on a Snake 112 votes (SOAP)
9. Runaway Pheonix with Snakes on a Plane 123 votes (SOAP)
8. Ben Rusch with Wash Your Mouth Out 136 votes
7. Former Fat Boys with Snakes on a Plane 138 votes (SOAP)
6. 50412 with Snakes on a Plane 140 votes (SOAP)
5. Zachery with Serious Problem 155 votes (SOAP)
4. John Elkins with Keep it Moving 168 votes (BS)
3. The guesstimates w/Two Snakes on a Plane 175 votes (SOAP)
2. Hollywood.mp3 at 325 votes (BS)
1. Futuristic Sex Robots w/Snakes on a Plane at 378 votes (SOAP)

I have removed the BS tag from Ben Rusch’s song because a few fans of his emailed me on another board saying that the song while it has no dialogue is inspired by and dedicated to Snakes on a Plane. I checked in with the artist’s website but can not verify if this is true, so I will continue to monitor the situation and leave the tag off for now. Sadly as I remove one BS tag another takes its place: I have no idea where John Elkin’s votes came from but they appeared suddenly like a snake on a plane…..

KEEP VOTING FOR YOUR FAVORITES AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO VOTE!

(oh and congrats Evan for climbing all the way to third! VOTE FOR Jenny’s Midnight Screamatorium!)

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 9:53 pm

I remember getting dozens of friend requests from this no good JC Cannegieter on myspace. I joined tagworld.com just to vote for the snakes on a plane contest and within a day I got a friend request from JC on tagword. I foolishly accepted the friend request and now I can’t delete him. (Tagworld blows) Anyway, give that Captain Ahab “Snakes On the Brain” song a listen. It’s very well done and should atleast be in the top 20.

Comment by Rob — April 21, 2006 @ 10:04 pm

Rob,
I agree Captain Ahab’s song is cool! I am tempted to go and fake accounts to upvote songs unfairly buried (like Jenny’s Midnight Screamatorium and Noodles with Teeth)

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 10:25 pm

The JC Canngieter Diss Track is up…I’m trying to find a way to publicize this on TagWorld…the third verse in this is really just amazing/devastating so make sure you listen all the way through. Maybe just friend f16soapcrew on tagworld? I’ll think of something.

Anyway…enjoy…we rapped over T.I.’s Front Back, Puffy’s “Victory” and Jay-Z’s “It’s Hot.”

Hey everybody,

I think the song I submitted is pretty decent — AND Snakes On A Plane themed — and at last count it’s currently ranked around 54th. It wouldn’t take much to help me get into the top 25, so listen to the song and if you like it please vote for it.

ARTIST: Peter Panic
SONG: No Place To Hide

It’s in the “rock” genre.

Thanks!

Legit H you made my night when you busted in with “she likes cranberries on a hot day” hahahahahaha great stuff

Comment by snakecharmer — April 21, 2006 @ 10:58 pm

Just saying that we appreciate all the votes. Hollywood.mp3 has to die.

Though, I really feel like most of these tracks, especially those in the lead, will get bounced by the producers.

I listened to every track and I can’t see most of them being chosen simply because the production value is so low. Since the “cash value” of this prize in the rules is valued at $500 I hardly doubt that they will be paying people to re-record.

Secondly, I don’t see songs like FSR’s track making it because the rules said under 5 minutes long, plus the necrophelia references, plus the off beat rapping just won’t sell.

I love the nipsy song, very darknessesque, but I just don’t know about most of these.

I don’t know if the fact that I used motherfucker in my song is indecent and thus against the technical rules.

Anyways, if you want the free mp3 for Former Fat Boys - SNAKES ON A PLANE…its here:

Comment by Benjamin Garbe — April 21, 2006 @ 11:57 pm

And PS. Ben Rusch’s song is a bunch of bullshit. That kid is some garageband bitch and seriously if you can’t tell its about SoaP then it isn’t. I’ve had some words with him and the guys around here have really had enough of this bullshit. If I elaborate any more on that it’ll be in track format so we’ll see what happens.

Peace.
