Snakes on Videos IV

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

Two videos for you today. The first is a music video of sorts based on this song I posted last week. The second is sort of a Mastercard “priceless” tv commercial parody utilizing the nootropic phone calls. Enjoy:

Snakes on an Ezekiel 25:17

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

Esnakeiel 25:17

The path of the righteous plane is beset on all sides by the iniquities of these snakes and the tyranny of those evil motherfuckers. Blessed is the plane, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the snakes through the friendly skies, for this plane is truly the snakes keeper and the finder of lost as shit motherfuckers. And I will strike down upon thee with lots of venom and motherfucking anger those who would attempt to crash my plane and destroy my snakes. And you will know my name is Samuel L. Motherfuckin’ Jackson when I lay my taser upon thee.

Thanks Matt.

Snakes on a David Ellis Interview

Friday, April 28th, 2006

Liquid Generation has a video interview up with director David Ellis. It took me about a million years to get through their annoying loading process, but you get a lot of information when you finally get to the video. For example:

    • The snakes are extra angry because they bad guys have released “pheromones” in the air system.
    • The snakes are NOT a metaphor for muslim extremists.
    • They occasionally “lost” snakes while shooting and had to do counts after scenes to prevent this.
    • Soul Plane “had a bunch of black people and they had no snakes,” which was the problem with that film.
    • “First Class or Snake Class” would have been a good alternate title.

David Ellis then goes on to direct his own Fan Video version of the film using action figures, a paper airplane, and a bunch of snakes. It’s pretty amusing. It’s nice to see people involved with the film having a good time with it.

Here’s a few screenshots from the video:

They’ve also posted an extended transcript of the interview which goes into much more detail than the video. I haven’t read it yet.

PS. I’m officially in law school finals mode now. I turned down a live TV interview request today and I may be slow in getting things online for the next few weeks. If you email me and I don’t write back, or don’t post something online quickly, this is why. I’ll do my best, but no promises. I’ll catch up once school is over, but you’ll need to cut me a little bit of slack for the month of May.

Snakes on The American Spectator

Friday, April 28th, 2006

The American Spectator ran a piece today criticizing Yale for the admission of a former Taliban spokesman, and the school’s handling of the controversy. The author did so using the most obvious method possible: an extended Snakes on a Plane metaphor, complete with a significant amount of fake dialogue. It’s pretty weird.

Snakes on a Magazine Cover

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

I was informed that Boulder’s Dirt magazine’s cover for next week will feature this really snazzy Snakes on a Plane drawing by Pete Holm:

Snakes on Dirt Magazine

I usually post a bunch of Fan Art at the same time, but being the cover of a magazine, and really good, encouraged me to post this one solo. Enjoy.

UPDATE: As per user requests, here’s a larger (1600×1200) version.

Snakes on a Production Photo

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Two days I wrote about the interview with Samuel L. Jackson in Time and the new production photo therein. Well, the guys at JoBlo were smart enough to ask for a high-resolution copy so that we could enjoy it in all its Snakey-goodness. Click for a Big Samuel L. Jackson and a big snake:

Snakes on Songs XI

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

We’ve got a few new songs today.

I would especially recommend M.F. Snakes on a M.F. Plane, it’s a cool accoustic guitar thing. I really liked it a lot. They say it was recorded for the Tagworld contest, but I couldn’t find it to on Tagworld’s website to vote for it… too bad.

Snakes on a Tattoo

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

I haven’t yet seen anyone with the audacity to get a Snakes on a Plane tattoo (although I’m sure it’s coming).  Perhaps this guy over at the Snakes on a LiveJournal Blog will be the first.  A friend of his has started taking donations… once they hit $250 he’ll get the tattoo.   At least that’s what they say, I don’t know these guys and I can’t vouch for their honesty.

But, if you’re interested in seeing someone other than yourself get the first Snakes on a Plane Tattoo, this could be your chance to help.

Snakes on the Great Depression

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Thomas sent me this little piece a few weeks ago and its been sitting in my inbox since then, I figure it’s time to trot it out:

The Cause of the Great Depression
Many people are under the impression that the Great depression of the 1930’s began with the Stock Market crash. This is, however, a myth. There are countless causes leading up to the Great depression. In this economic thesis, I will explain exactly how all these events tie together and how they effected the economy of the early 20th century…

Damnation-Inc, one of my favorite shirt producers, has a new model of their classic Snakes on a Plane shirt. This one is much more stealthy:

You can pick up their new shirt design for a mere $15, a bargain. When it comes to free shirts, my nickname is still “The Shill”.  They also have a new female friendly shirt, and I’ll get you pictures of that one in a few days.  Enjoy.

Snakes on another Samuel L. Jackson Interview

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Samuel L. Jackson has given a second interview, this time to Time magazine. They also featured a new still photo from the movie which we haven’t seen before (scroll to the bottom to see it). Here’s what he had to say about the movie… it’s most a rehash of what we’ve heard before:

“I knew I was going to do the movie when I saw the title,” says Samuel L. Jackson… “I think I have an audience member’s sensibility, and the title just puts it all right out there. You either get it, or you don’t.” At various points, executives at New Line Cinema admit they did not get it. “They wanted to call it Pacific Air 121,” says Jackson. “I told them that was the stupidest damn thing I ever heard.”

When asked about the fact that fans have had an impact on the film, he replied:

“Personally, I think it’s great. They saved the movie.” When the actor first signed on, he and Ellis agreed that people who like the title are probably not easily offended. But when Jackson arrived for shooting, the script had been neutered to garner a PG-13 rating. “They restricted my cursing and restricted the gore. It was kind of a waste of time.”

And director David Ellis chimes in with a little bit more about where the movie’s going. Again, sort of a rehash of what we’ve heard before, but:

“Kids between 17 and 25 really want to see a little T. and A., so there’s a nice Mile High Club scene,” says Ellis. “And if you’re going to do an R-rated film, you have to go for the violence and the gore. So now every time a snake strikes somebody, we hold on that snake attack and get more impact out of it.”

And the winning quote from Ellis:

“I have no ego,” says Ellis. “You have to be smart enough to collaborate with everybody when you’re making a movie, so why not work with the people you’re making the movie for?”

Go read the whole story, and check out the new production still from the movie:

Snakes on a New Server

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Ok, it appears that the current burst of activity is because CNN just reprinted the AP story from a few days ago (providing a link here). To accomodate the crowd, I’ve temporarily shortened the lengths of pages dramatically (reducing server stress). Sadly, this website does not have as much capacity as I would like… so…

Hey folks, do any of my readers run a web hosting company looking to take on a little website about a little movie?

My current webhost provider is not providing me with adequate server facilities and will not allow me to purchase a higher level of service (I can’t imagine why). I’d love to trade adspace for server space/bandwidth/etc but I can also pay. Any advice from anybody would be appreciated.

For everyone from CNN.com, I highly recommend you check out everything this site has to offer: Fan Art, Fan Songs, Fan Comics, Fan Shirts and Fan Videos.

Snakes on the Oscars?

Monday, April 24th, 2006

This blog posting from Maki has been sitting in my bookmarks for a month waiting for me to get around to posting it online, but I liked the idea, so I’m finally getting around to it. It’s a list of PROs and CONs about why Samuel L. Jackson should be awarded an Oscar for his performance in the movie. Here’s a taste:

Pro:
Samuel L. Jackson was completely robbed in 1994 for Pulp Fiction. That may be the most memorable performance of the ’90s and Martin Landau goes home with the Oscar? Please. The man is due some retribution for that crime.

Con:
Formula 51, The Man, Star Wars Episodes 1, 2, 3,**** xXx, Twisted… Need I go on? There’s not much he’s had since probably Jackie Brown that’s worth recognizing. The man will do anything for a paycheck these days, it seems. At least he had one of the best scenes ever committed to film in Deep Blue Sea, which I won’t ruin for all four of you who haven’t seen it, but I’ll just say that it absolutely makes the movie. The movie goes from a 1-star movie to 3-stars on my scale just from that one scene alone. I’m not even joking.

It’s worth a quick read, enjoy.

Snakes on a Photoshop Contest III

Monday, April 24th, 2006

A while ago Fark had a photoshop contest that I linked to but never got around to mirroring the graphics of. It was “The most important photoshop ever: Design a “Snakes on a Plane” movie poster.” Finally today I got around to mirroring them. Because of new server limitations, I can’t post them all on the front page, to see the rest you’ll have to follow the link below.

Here they are, in particular order:

Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster

Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster Snakes on a Plane Fark Poster

(Sorry, new server restrictions mean I can’t post everything on the front page, it bogs down the works.  You’ll probably notice that you’re occasionally getting error messages when you try to load the site.  Please just refresh once or twice and everything will work fine. Similarly, you’ll occasionally notice that a few images haven’t loaded properly, refreshing should fix that as well.  I’ll see if I can do anything about a better server connection.  Anyone out there run a fancy hosting company who’s looking to make a deal?)

Snakes on Opening Night Shenanigans

Monday, April 24th, 2006

The other Snakes on a Blog points out that pehaps opening night for Snakes on a Plane should be a little bit Rocky Horror-esque. Phog suggests that everybody buy dozens of rubber/plastic snakes and fling them into the air in the theater at the appropriate moment. It might get you tossed from the screening, but it would definitely make me laugh.

Get your orders in now:
7.5″-9″ snakes… $4.95 for 48 at Oriental Trading Company:
OTC Snakes

14″ snakes… $7.20 for 48 at AMC Wholesale:
AMC Snakes

Just don’t hurt anyone… Snakes on a Plane is about Snakes on a Plane, not Blood in a Theater (although that might not be a terrible sequel now that I think of it).

SNakes on a Tagworld Contest - Day 4

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

The Tagworld tallies continue, thanks to snakecharmer:

10. Runaway Pheonix with Snakes on a Plane 144 votes (SOAP)
9. Ben Rusch with Wash Your Mouth Out 145 votes (SOAP)
8. Nascence with Black votes 157 (?)
7. Zachery with Serious Problem 158 votes (SOAP)
6. 50412 with Snakes on a Plane 159 votes (SOAP)
5. John Elkins with Keep it Moving 225 votes (BS)
4.. Former Fat Boys with Snakes on a Plane 234 votes (SOAP)
3. The guesstimates w/Two Snakes on a Plane 284 votes (SOAP)
2. Hollywood.mp3 at 378 votes (BS)
1. Futuristic Sex Robots w/Snakes on a Plane at 479 votes (SOAP)

As snakecharmer points out “Wizardz of Rhyme have left the list but are not forgotten in the mean time we get the addition of Nascence” which may or may not be Snakes on a Plane related. It appears to be something of a judgement call.

Also, for those of you who don’t know, I’m currently in law school. And this weekend I’ve officially entered finals mode, which means my time to do things like respond to emails and post updates is limited. I’m still going to maintain this page, but if you try to get in touch with me and I don’t respond quickly (or at all), or if updates are slow in coming, I apologize.

I’ll be done with finals by June, and then this site will be full speed all summer.

UPDATE: I just checked and voting ends on MAY 30th. I’m not sure if nightly updates are worthwhile for a whole month. Do you guys want to keep doing these?
