Snakes on an Official Trailer (UPDATED)

Friday, March 17th, 2006

UPDATE (3/17/06 at 5:08pm) — I’ve gotten more than one phone call today from people at New Line asking me to clarify that this trailer is not the official teaser trailer for the film, it was put online merely for the songwriting contest at Tagworld. The CG is not representative of how the snakes will look in the final cut. The OFFICIAL official teaser trailer will apparently be coming out in about a month. I’ll be out of town for the remainder of the weekend, so updates will be sparse.

“Enough is enough, I’ve had it with these snakes.”

Wow, I don’t know if I missed this in the last post, or if the page has changed in the last few hours, but at the bottom of the TagWorld site linked from the official Snakes on a Plane website is the first official trailer to hit the net. Of course, we’ve had unofficial trailers before, but it’s nice to see something real.

And I thought it would be hard to hit a snake with a Taser… I was clearly wrong.

Snakes on an Official Website II

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

There’s been a lot of action at the official Snakes on a Plane website in the last few days. Yesterday the site changed from it’s original graphic to a new, more evil looking graphic. Today it’s changed graphics yet again and actually added a little bit of content. Here’s the graphic progression from oldest to newest:

Snakes on a Blog Snakes on a Plane Official Website Photo Snakes on a Blog Snakes on a Plane Official Website Photo Snakes on a Blog Snakes on a Plane Website Logo

We seem to have transitioned from an evil logo, to more of an adventure story, Indiana Jones-esque logo. Ok, I guess. I admit I liked the evil logo better, and maybe even the original logo the best. It had the same level of bluntness as the title itself. Anyway, in addition to the new logo we also have a link to the “Fan Site of the Week” which points to: http://www.tagworld.com/snakesonaplane .

Snakes on a Blog Snakes on a Plane Tagworld

This is the first time we’ve had any content on the official website, so it’s interesting. The graphic above has the first new picture from the film we’ve seen in a while, which has Samuel L. Jackson straddling the aisle with a Taser in his hand. Tasering snakes seems like it would be difficult.

The Tagworld site is a contest for songwriters. Submit your song, any genre, and let the fans vote for it. The top 25 will be submitted to New Line who will pick their favorite, at which point the rules are unclear as to what happens:

…the winning Music Track will appear on or be heard in connection with, the soundtrack album for the Picture, and any other related materials as determined by New Line and TagWorld.

I have no idea what “heard in connection with” the soundtrack means. Well anyway, we’ve got a lot of good songs out there already, I’d heavily lobby anyone who’s produced one to submit it (especially the Subatomic Warp guys).

Snakes on a Snake Repellent

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

GleeTV pointed me to a fantastic product that I might want to buy, just to carry into the premiere with me:

Snakes on a Blog Snakes on a Plane Serpentguard

And it can do everything you would expect from such a product:

Make snakes run away like they’re on FIRE! Completely eradicate your snake population in less than a week with SerpentGuard

How can snakes run? Why does their description of what their product does end in a question mark? This stuff must be GREAT! How about some more:

SerpentGuard is a synergistic combination of non-poisonous ingredients that has been tested extensively and proven to be effective in ridding areas of snakes. No other product is nearly as effective as SerpentGuard

Synergistic? More question marks at the end of their selling points? Want more?

In general, most snakes in the continental United States are harmless; however, some snakes can be fatal. In order to deter the invasion of snakes we recommend keeping your property as clean and clutter free as possible. Do not provide hiding places.

If you have hiding places on your plane, you may be faced with a snake invasion! Look out! This product really is good. I tried to email them a question about how well it would protect me against Snakes on a Plane, and their email address bounced. Too bad, I was hoping for a funny response. Anyway, enjoy.

SerpentGUARD!

Snakes on Bloggers

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

The other Snakes on a Blog had pictures of two different homemade projects today. First an iron-on decal (from onaseaofair) and then a pin (from misthostiel). Here are their pictures, and their artwork.

Go visit their webpages and tell them that they’re more creative than me, the only thing I’ve made this whole time was that one comic.

Snakes on my Shirt III

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

A new shirt arrived in the mail last week:

Snakes on a Blog Snakes on a Plane Shirt Snakes on a Blog Snakes on a Plane Shirt

And, like the last free shirt, this one came with a note:

Rumor has it that we don’t make our SoaP shirts with (ahem) Love. What can we say? It’s true. If ever we decide to make a “Save the Whales” shirt - unlikely - we’ll use Love. Promise. Meanwhile, for the sensitive types, we offer our designs on American Apparel organic cotton. Here’s a sample.

It is, I admit, very soft. This shirt, along with thre other Snakes on a Plane designs, can be purchased at Shelf Life’s CafePress store.  Let the selling out for free t-shirts continue!

Snakes on a ReShoot

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Last week Snakes on a Plane did five days of reshoots to bring the film’s rating from a PG-13 to an R. I received an email today from someone who worked on the set who gave an interesting description of what went on. It’s got a few borderline spoilers, so I’d recommend not reading it unless you’re willing to have some surprises unveiled:

As you may be well aware, Snakes On A Plane just finished doing some reshoots lastweek at The Lot in Hollywood (a far cry from their original Vancouver set) to bump the movie’s rating from a safe PG-13 to an R. I was on the crew, and I’ll tell you what I know.

Samuel L. Jackson, Kenan Thompson, Nathan Phillips and Bruce James were among the group brought back for reshoots to up the anty in previously filmed scenes and shoot additional ones I think Bruce James was the only one to shoot new scenes they added for him. He is HILARIOUS as the effeminate Ken and it seems like they were trying to give him more screen time. BEGIN SPOILER (Highlight the white space to read the mini-spoiler): Samuel L. Jackson did a lot of swearing and if you’re wondering what his big line is going to be for this movie I think people are right on the money so far in their assumptions. He is awesome. END OF MINI SPOILER.

Otherwise, some things got blown up (snakes???….blowing up??…on a plane??), and everyone was very excited to see some of the CGI scenes which look pretty amazing already and some of them are not even finished yet. On the last day of shooting David Ellis gathered the crew together and played the Best Fan Song from your site into speakers for us all to listen to and a lot of laughter ensued.

Anyways, just thought you’d want to know that he knows about the BLOG. So does New Line. You may not be that far way from that ticket to the premiere as you thought.

Pretty exciting, eh?

Snakes on a Petition

Monday, March 13th, 2006

Independant of my efforts, a loyal reader has put together a petition requesting that I be invited/allowed to attend the premiere. Here’s the text of the appeal:

To: New Line Cinema

It has become apparent that the amount of work and effort put into the website www.snakesonablog.com has resulted in the soon to be released film “Snakes on Plane” receiving massive amounts of publicity months before its actual premiere.

The owner webmaster of the site www.snakesonablog.com, without asking for any financial contributions and of his own free will, has turned the film ‘Snakes on a Plane’ not just an Internet meme, but indeed into a worldwide cultural awakening. This movement has united people of different faiths, colors, creeds, sexuality, nationality and so forth, into ONE united goal: The magnificence that is ‘Snakes on a Plane’

Therefore, we, the undersigned, respectfully petition:
* Hannah Rachel Production Services Ltd.
* Mutual Film Corporation
* New Line Cinema
* Patchwork Productions

and director David R Ellis, to invite the owner/webmaster (same person) of www.snakesonablog.com to attend the Hollywood Premiere of the motion picture ‘Snakes on a Plane’ as a reward for all his tireless effort to transform what could have been a fun B movie into a world wide cultural movement.

Thank you

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

You can sign the petition here, if you’re interested. I’m not sure that more signatures necessarily equals more chances of attending the premiere, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.

Again, I just want to say that I didn’t put it together so address any questions about the petition itself to reader Snakes in Europe.

UPDATE 8/7/06: Petition successful!

Snakes on a Blog IV

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

I like the idea of monthly recaps to say how the site is doing numerically. My last one was one month ago, I’m going to maintain the format I used then.

I’ve been online for 60 days. I’ve had about 35,000 visitors. I’ve posted 98 stories. There have been 150,000 requests for pages, and a staggering 2,250,000 requests for all files (these are mostly people hotlinking to images and comics that I’ve hosted and posting them on other forums around the net). I’ve transferred 52 gigabytes of data. The most popular day of the week is Friday. The most popular hour of the day is between 1pm and 2pm. I’ve gotten four free t-shirts (more please).

But my goal was not to build stats. My goal was not to get free t-shirts or high hit-counts. My goal was to attend the Hollywood premiere of Snakes on a Plane. If that doesn’t come to pass, then all the rest of this work was for nothing. Read my first, second and third pleas to hear more.

You should all know that I’m getting closer. Things are starting to fall into place. Nothing’s set in stone, but the wheels of progress are starting to spin. I can’t say more, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

Snakes on a Photoshop Contest

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

Fark ignored my request to do something similar weeks ago, but they’ve finally gotten around to doing a Snakes on a Plane themed photoshop contest. The specific theme is “If all films were produced by the poeple that created the movie ‘Snakes on a Plane.’”

It’s pretty amusing, check it out. I might compile a “best of” collection later.

Update, 11:48pm: Here are a few of the submissions that seemed most connected to Snakes on a Plane:

Snakes on a Road Trip

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

I’ve been away for a week and have received at least one angry comment decrying my absence. For those of you upset with the down time, let it be known that I didn’t waste the week. I spent the time travelling with my snake Sammy so that I could provide you with this photo-journal: Snakes on a Road Trip.

First, there was a lot of driving. We had Snakes on a Car:

We had to stop a few times for food, and discovered we had Snakes on a Meal:

Eventually we arrived at the shore and we found Snakes on a Beach:

The worst, unfortunately, was discovering that there were Snakes on my Friends:

We also found Snakes on a Mini-Golf course:

And Snakes on a Spring Training Baseball Game:

We returned from our trip with a lot of memories, including Snakes on a Sunburn, Snakes on a Cell Phone, and Snakes on a Spade:

And finally, after driving 2100 miles in less than a week, I returned home and discovered, much to my surprise, I even had Snakes on a Blog:

We’ll resume our regularly scheduled Snakes on a Blog postings tomorrow, once I get settled. I was shocked at the creative outpouring of poems while I was away, good job.

Snakes on a Poem II

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

A few days ago I wrote about the first poem to incorporate Snakes on a Plane, which inspired a few people to write their own short poems. I enjoyed them so much, I thought they deserved more attention:

Motherfucking snakes.
Running rampant through the sky.
Motherfucking plane.
by crazymonk

Roses are red
sugar is cane
who puts snakes
on this motherfucking plane?!?!?!?!?!
by Snakes in Europe

Terror slithers on
Silent foe, miles above Earth
Snakes are on the plane.
by K Project

What did you say? Snakes?
On the motherfucking plane?
Now that’s a movie!
by New York Anthony

snakes on a plane, bitch
on this motherfucking plane
aint shit we can do
by Snakes in Europe

SOAP? What’s this stupid shit?
Snakes on a Plane is better.
Change it and gross zero!
by snakes in wisconsin

I’d love to get more, post them in the comments below.

On a housekeeping note, I’m going to be out of town for a few days and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get online or not. If Samuel L. Jackson goes on TV and talks about how he thinks I’m the coolest guy in the whole world, and I don’t mention anything about it here, that’s why.

But please, write me some poems.

Snakes on a Musical

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

I got an email today from Gunnar who’s working on his own Snakes on a Plane musical. Here’s what he’s got so far:

They screen you for guns and they screen you for bombs
They screen you for nail clippers, hammers and thongs
They do everything to make sure you don’t die
But there’s one little thing their equipment can’t spy

[Chorus]:
Snakes on a plane
Snakes on a plane
Snakes on a plane
Sna - - - akes on a plane

A cold-blooded killer with cold-blooded snakes
Is trying to ruin your holiday break
But there’s one little thing that the terrorists missed
That’s when Samuel L. Jackson gets seriously pissed

[Chorus x 2]

[Last line]:
Sna - - - akes on a motherfucking plane

This will go on a simple Am - C - D - G progression. I imagine maybe Usher or Pharell playing Samuel Jackson on stage. I’m glad you liked the idea, I will continue working on it.

There seems to be a lot of work to be done to tranform this one song into an entire musical, but hell, why not?

Snakes on Location

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

That other Snakes on a Blog recently started posting movie news at the LiveJournal Snakes on a Blog community.  There’s a bunch of them, and they’re good, so I think we’ll be racing for content in the coming weeks.  Anyway, today he posted the following pictures (taken by Dogwelder) of signs around LA:

Snakes on a Blog Snakes on a Plane Location Photos

The signs are pointing the cast and crew to shooting locations around LA. This is part of a 5 day reshoot to bring the movie from a PG-13 (lame) to an R (cool).  Hopefully there will be signs like that to point the way for me to attend the premiere.
