Samuel L. Jackson appears to be doing the press junket for Freedomland, and he’s getting asked questions about our favorite film. Here’s what he’s had to say:

  • Monsters And Critics - “Next up, he`ll portray an FBI agent in the action drama ‘Snakes on a Plane,’ whose title is self-explanatory. ‘They were thinking about changing it to `Pacific Flight 121,` and I said, `why?`’ he recalls. ‘They said they didn`t want to give away the secret and I said, `yes you do.` When I opened the script and saw the title, I knew I wanted to do the movie.’”
  • Dark Horizons - “Actually you know we had a great time on this film. I tend to see movie sets as a fun kind of playground and all the stuff that I need to know and do I prepared myself to do. Interestingly enough Julianne is almost like a mirror image of me. So when we got through with the rehearsal process and we were ready to go and when we got to set Julianne and I could stand there and talk about baseball, basketball, her kids and I think at the time she was real caught up in American Idol and she was watching it all the time so she was talking about ‘oh and Bo was so good today I really hope he stays tonight an it is going to be so good’. So she would go in an out of it like you know boom, boom, boom so we had just such a great time. But to answer your question in another was I do still like doing films that are just kind of visceral thrills that I use to go and see when I was kid you know. You know what is going to happen so when I opened that script that day and it said “Snakes on a Plane” I went, ‘I don’t even need to do read this, I’ll do this’, you know if it is what I think it is, I am going to do it! You know… ” On being upstaged by a snake: “I don’t know, we’ll talk about that when we get to that junket [laughter].
  • Seattle Times - “‘I’m still that guy who likes to see myself in something mindless and exciting,’ he says. ‘I don’t want to do heavy movies all year long. I want to do films people scream at.’ To demonstrate, he lets out a blood-curdling scream. ‘That’s why the next picture I’m making is ‘Snakes on a Plane.”
  • Charleston Post and Courier & Entertainment Weekly both run standard “everybody’s talking about this movie, there’s so much anticipation and fan involvement on the internet” stories. The EW one, however, requires a membership to view the whole story.

I’m still excited about the story describing people getting bitten in the face by snakes hanging down like oxygen masks.
