Snakes on a Comic VI

Friday, January 27th, 2006

My Roman Numeral system may start to crumble if I get too much more content. It’s turning into a Rocky-esque situation. Anyway, I was feeling ambitious today and made my own comic. That’s right, self-created content. But, of course, I’m not very talented, so this was the best I could do. Enjoy:

Snakes on the Web II

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

A few more links to interesting Snakes on a Plane related sites around the web:

    • Low Brow Culture - A blog pointing out that Sheldon Turner, writer of Snakes on a Plane, has another project coming out called The Breathtaker where “[a] small-town police chief pursues a serial killer who strikes only during tornadoes, brutally killing his victims in the eye of the storm.” Clearly our author has a penchant for pushing the edge of plausability.
    • Wired and Hired - An amusing blog explaining how to write a good resume using examples from Snakes on a Plane. “List your positions chronologically and include powerful, bulleted accomplishments. Use action verbs. ‘Developed account strategy for the entire department’ or ‘Slithered past Samuel L. Jackson into the cockpit.’
    • Snakes on a Plane magazine - It has nothing whatsoever to do with the movie. It’s a short magazine of some sort that you can download and print on your own.
    • Afterlife_Logs - It also has nothing to do with the movie. A creepy livejournal that couples apparently use for vaguely cybersex purposes. In this particular case, we’re watching one segment of the saga of Mr. and Mrs. Smith entitled Snakes on a Plane. Weird.

Official Snakes in Official Places

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

I went to New Line Cinema’s Press Release page today. I hadn’t been there before and I was curious if there would be anything worth seeing. Nope. Then I went to New Line’s Movie Publicity Page and voila, there is indeed a Snakes on a Plane Publicity Page. (They also have it listed as “Snakes on Planes” on this page… they clearly don’t have as much respect for the title as we do).

Anyway, the Publicity site includes this standard synopsis:

Samuel L. Jackson stars in the intense action feature Snakes On A Plane from director David Ellis (Final Destination 2, Cellular). Jackson plays an FBI agent who is escorting a witness on a flight from Hawaii to Los Angeles when an assassin releases hundreds of deadly snakes on a commercial airplane in order to eliminate the witness. The FBI agent, along with a rookie pilot, frightened crew and passengers must then band together in a desperate attempt to survive.

It also includes the standard publicity photos (I would guess this is where they originally came from) and a link to http://www.snakesonaplanemovie.com/ which I somehow missed before. There’s no real content on the site yet, but at least they spelled the name of the movie right.

Snakes on a Blog II

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Snakes on a Blog started ten days ago. In that time the site has served up over 11,000 requests for pages, over 75,000 requests for all files (pages, images, songs, videos), had 21 posts and transferred over 3 gigabytes of information. Not bad for the first two weeks.

But, importantly, what it hasn’t done, yet, is get me any closer to my goal of attending the Snakes on a Plane premiere. There must be readers out there who live in Hollywood. There must be readers out there who work at New Line. There must be readers out there who know Samuel L. Jackson or Kenan Thompson personally. And yet, to date, I haven’t heard from any of you. I set up a contact page and everything, but still no word.

My dreams in life are so small, so petty, so obtainable.

So please, if you know anybody who worked on Snakes on a Plane who can help me on my quest, or if you can help me on my quest, please get in touch. I can only offer my gratitude and the gratitude of all those who have ever had a goal as important, and yet as unimportant, as this one.

I have faith.

Please also read my previous plea.

Snakes in the News

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

MSNBC’s Test Pattern ran this story a few weeks ago discussing the Snakes on a Plane phenomenon. Clearly someone over there is a big fan because on Friday they posted another story which pointed us to yet another story, this one at the Honolulu Star-Bulletin from 1997. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin story describes the canine efforts to prevent snakes from the entering the country on a plane:

Security officials from McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas said they have caught people trying to bring snakes on airplanes, but that the situations are rare.

Once snakes get on the plane, Hawaii agriculture inspectors rely on “the honor system” with declaration forms, Cravalho said…

For example, snake-sniffing beagles mostly patrol the baggage-claim areas of United and Amercian airlines. And the dogs will only sniff bags that are on the ground. People are never searched.

“We can’t hassle the tourists,” Cravalho said.

Flights from Guam, home of the brown tree snake, are still top priority. These planes are federally inspected, too.

I, myself, am a big fan of the honor system. I also want to point out this news story from the Orlando Weekly in 1998:

Zoo skies ahead

In October, according to medical tests, Khyl Hardy, 6, was bitten by a poisonous taipan snake, and he and his mother say it happened when he reached under his seat on an Ansett Airlines flight from Melbourne, Australia, to Perth to retrieve a lollipop he had dropped and felt a sting. (The snake was not found.)

The skies may never be safe from the constant scourge of Snakes on a Plane.

Snakes on 3 new Shirts

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

It occurred to me yesterday that there’s probably more enterprising webgineers out there who made shirts that we haven’t heard of, so I checked out CafePress.com, bastion of poorly designed outerwear. There are indeed three different styles of Snakes on a plane shirts available, the first two are dull, the third one’s got a good logo:

Snakes on a Plane Shirt Snakes on a Plane Shirt Snakes on a Plane Shirt
Click the shirts for larger images. The shirts are available for purchase, from left to right, at Snakes on a Plane, Junk Dawg, and Snakes on a Plane T-Shirt (all at CafePress). The store names are almost as exciting as the first two shirts. See all previous Fan Shirt posts.

Snakes on a Comic III

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

As I seem to keep running into more content, I’ve reorganized a little. If you look at the right column you’ll see an itemized listing of the general content of each post. Today I’m going to post a comic strip, if you want to see all the comic strips I’ve posted, click on the link that says Fan Comics in the right hand column. Got it?

Here’s the comic:

Snakes on a Plane Comic Strip

I found the image here, but it apparently originally came from 4chan.

(I wouldn’t recommend investigating 4chan too deeply if you’re not in the mood for some gross surprises, this comic is far and away them tamest thing I’ve seen them do.)

Snakes on my Shirts

Friday, January 20th, 2006

My shirts have arrived! And both on the same day, it’s exciting.

Snakes on a Plane on my Shirt 2 Snakes on a Plane on my Shirt

Snakes on a Plane on my Shirt logo 2 Snakes on a Plane on my Shirt logo

Upon arrival I realized my excitement had caused me to make two errors in ordering them:

  1. I shouldn’t have gotten Extra Large. I know I’m not Extra Large, I’m just tall. Extra Large is too fat. But hey, just room for more snakes I guess.
  2. I shouldn’t have gotten them both in almost the same color. Oh well, I guess next time I’ll know to buy that bright pink one I had my eye on.

Anyway, cool, eh? I’m going to be very stylish from now on. Which one do you like better?

(If you want to buy one of these shirts, go here and click on the style that you prefer, it will take you to the right store.)

Ok, one new song to add tonight… it’s pretty good:

Also, my shirts have arrived! It occurred to me after I ordered them that they’re probably too big, but I’ll try them on tonight and see how they look. I’m ever so excited. I finally have garments fine enough to attend premiere screenings in.

To save cluttering up the entire front page, I’ve made viewing these 3 dozen more posters optional (and it’s not for the faint of heart). Ok, I bumped into a treasure trove of Snakes on a Plane songs online tonight. First is from a guy who claims to have the official soundtrack to the trailer. It’s pretty good, although, admittedly, it’s not a song:
